I just love the idea of a morally corrupt Dick Grayson, that still fights against his instincts and needs, just to be perceived as a good man. The things he wants to do to his little wing are unholy, and he knows it, he still yearns.
He can act all high and mighty, say everything he wants about Dick and his decisions, and berate him for being irresponsible, but he cannot deny that Dick is acting well within his rights.
He simply took full ownership of what had always been his.
Besides, what else would Jason be, if not his?
Jason is wearing Dick's suit, with his family colors and his yellow cape wrapped snuggly around his body; he answers to Dick's name and continues his legacy, he uses the same move sets, and he even looks like him; hell, he sleeps in Dick's old room, on his old bed, wrapped around his old bedsheets, and rubbing Dick's scent all over his skin!
Jason Todd was His.
And sure, Dick had been an asshole at the beginning, but that was before he knew that Jason was an Omega. At first, he had only believed Jason to be an interloper: a freshly new and unpresented pup that Bruce had gotten to replace him in the Pack.
But he had been wrong.
Oh, he had been so, so wrong.
From the first moment Dick caught his sweet, freshly presented scent, he understood: Jason was not his replacement.
He was a gift.
His mate.
And he already looked at Dick like he had hung the moon and the stars in the sky, because he knew so too. Jason knew who he belonged with, and he was happy to follow through.
So Dick sunk his fangs on Jason's pale and slender neck and locked them together in his nest at the first opportunity.
As was his right.
Now Bruce was angry, acting all high and mighty, screaming and being overall unreasonable, as if that could change anything.
Since he was very young, Jason Todd has been a fan of the stars.
Of the way the planets moved in unison around the Sun, following predetermined paths without hindering one another, and moved seamlessly in the dark void that was the universe, keeping one another in perfect harmony.
Granted, Jason Todd did not know much about the stars or the planets or the universe. Only the little tidbits his mom would sometimes tell him before bed.
In Jason's eyes, Dick Grayson was The Sun.
From the moment he first saw him flying through Gotham's skyline as Robin, all the way to when he first heard him yell and scream at Bruce as Nightwing, Dick Grayson had always been Jason Todd's Sun. Because, even before he knew it, Jason's life revolved unequivocally, around him.
One might think that little Street Rat Jason Todd would see Bruce Wayne as his savior and therefore, his Sun. Would have his life revolve around him to keep his love and warmth. But Jason knew better. Bruce Wayne was not the Sun, he was looking for the Sun. He was looking for Dick Grayson, and had picked up Jason Todd on a whim, to try and make a Sun out of him.
Only you can't make a Sun out of the Moon.
----------
Dick Grayson is all sunshine. He has all the light in the world, and radiates warmth wherever he goes. And Jason can do nothing else but to bask in the calid embrace of his light, whenever he is permitted.
To stand close enough to see the crinkle in his eyes as he smiles (not at him, never at him). To breathe in the scent of his cologne from his clothes whenever Dick allows him close. To feel his fingertips run soothingly through his hair as he calls him his "Little Wing" one second, and then feel the sharp pull of his hair on the next when he is too slow on the job or doesn't follow his orders accordingly. To have him cup his cheeks tenderly, his short nails scraping over his soft skin, leaving red marks on them as he tells him he was "Good, for a Replacement". It's more than he deserves.
And just like the sun, everything and everyone else revolves around him. No matter if it's in Gotham, New York, or Bludhaven.
Walking beside him, Jason can’t go a few steps without a friendly face stopping him for conversation, beaming up at him like plants reaching towards the heavens.
It irritates him.
That his attention, that Jason worked so hard to get, will then so easily go to them. All the while Jason stands quietly in the shadows, like the moon... invisible during the daytime, with only the Sun's light reflected onto him, giving him barely any glow at all.
But he is content with that, he must. Because he hasn't seen Dick in a month, and Dick took him out for ice cream today, and while they walked he was listening to him talk, and he promised to take him to the arcade tomorrow. He even gave him his number, so he can reach him anytime.
The Moon is only a cold and dark place without the Sun's light, after all.
----------
Many years have passed, since Jason woke up inside his grave. And despite many attempts on his life (his own and third parties), he has managed to remain alive and even has been mostly (kind of) reintegrated into the family.
For which Jason means that he is again under the light of the Sun. Kind of. Again, it's weird.
The Sun he remembers was mean. This one always has a pretty smile and kind words, and the way he calls him Little Wing is less mocking and more mournful. And, once upon a time, Jason had called him and he didn't pick up, and Jason didn't blame him, seriously, but the Sun keeps insisting he is So sorry and that he will Never, ever fail you again. But the Sun has never failed Jason before... He doesn't understand.
But what is Jason to do? He is still the Sun, and while Jason might not be Bruce's moon anymore, a moon he still is.
----------
Jason might have forgotten that the Sun is a star. A conglomeration of gas, hopes, and broken dreams.
He was so focused on the all encompassing mass of the Sun, of the seemingly endless light and warmth it gave, that he forgot it was a dying star.
What a frightful thought.
----------
Dick Grayson is, somehow, a dying star.
He is burning quickly, and the cool water of his friends and family's love and adoration does not feel like a balm on his irritated skin anymore.
After losing the Moon, he had himself remade into the shape of a good older brother, a reliable hero, an always sunny disposition, for any and all. A man with only quirky quips and playful banter, and good advice.
But his temper is still the same as it was when he was younger, it still flares and seeks to lash out and rage an inferno. Only, he now has bound himself by duty and responsibility to his friends , and family, and city.
Jason knows this.
He knows Dick Grayson like he knows his morning prayer. He knows the needs and wants of his Sun, so when he sees him reach his peak, when he notices his discontent, Jason approaches him and let's him lash out onto him.
Because he knows he can take it.
After all, how could he ever do anything else, but to love his brother and take all the burdens he can from him?
Could someone else love him any better than Jason does? Soothe him any better than him? Allow him to be himself and let it all out, without breaking under his pressure, like he can?
No, he is Jason's temple and religion.
His God amongst the stars.
If he is mad, then it's righteous fury.
If he screams, then he must be obeyed.
If he wanted to hit him, then Jason would let him. (He has never, not even once)
It is, after all, the will of God.
----------
Dick Grayson is a Supernova.
One day, he will go out with a BANG.
And he will take everything with him.
Jason will gladly close his eyes and go with him.
----------
The Sun is jealous of the Moon.
The moon says he only shines thanks to the Sun, that he only ever sees the Sun, that he is Oh so very lonely when the Sun doesn't look at him.
But the Moon does not revolve around the Sun. He revolves around Earth, who he calls his Father, even if sometimes with disdain.
The Moon complains about the Sun's disposition, at how affable he is, how many friends he pays attention to, how may things and places he has to be at that he can't be with the Moon for longer periods of time. But the Moon is no better! Always following the Earth, doing things to please him, even if his eyes never leave the Sun.
I hate him, but he is my dad, even if he failed me, he says. I want to hate him, but I don't know how, he says. It's like I'm stuck inside his gravitational force, he says. I wish I could leave him, he says. You are the one I truly love. The only one I trust, he says. He believes him.
The Earth loves the Sun too. Wants him, needs him. The Sun does not care much for his devotion, not anymore. He cares for the other little stars around him, though. The Sun does not envy the Earth in anything but the Moon.
He wishes he could take the Moon for himself, pull him right beside him, stick him into his own gravitational force so that he could never, ever, leave him.
He knows it's impossible.
So he satisfies himself with taking him and pulling him apart in ways the Earth cannot ever do, so that the Moon never forgets him.
----------
Dick Grayson is not a good man, like he pretends to be. If he were, he would not be sinking his teeth into the meat of his little brother's neck, wishing he had fangs he could sink deeper than this. He would not be bruising his little brother's hips, wishing he could burn his hand prints onto his skin. He would not feel happy and proud at his little brother's crying face after he defiles him.
But he does.
Because Jason Todd is his Moon, and the Moon needs the Sun, even when he is dancing around the Earth. The Sun does not need the Moon, he has lived without him before, but he never wants to do it again. He is Dick's, he has always been Dick's, and he will always be Dick's.
----------
Dick Grayson is the Sun. He is at the core of all life forms. He is needed by all.
Bruce Wayne is the Earth. He needs both the Sun and the Moon to live. He needs everything to be exactly as it is, he cannot allow for change.
Jason Todd is the Moon. He needs the Sun to live, but doesn't know the Earth needs him to live too. He is trapped by Earth's gravitational force, he can't ever leave.
Dick smiles so pretty at him. His smile brightens all of his face and makes him look as radiant as their white suits. He holds his hands tenderly as he says to him in front of all their friends and family "I promise to love you and adore you for all of eternity, Little Wing. Until my heart stops beating, and death claims me. Until my last breath." And Jason loves him so much, and for the first time in forever, he believes in happy endings.
------ 5 YEARS LATER
"I want to preface this by saying that this is NOT what I meant when I said my vows to you..." Dick says. His once pretty blue eyes are now a deep red. His once straight teeth are now pointy, peeking out from the once pretty pink lips. "Not the part about loving you and adoring you for all of eternity, of course. I meant that very much, Jay. Still do."
Jason's lying in a soft bed, his hands and legs tightly tied, his mouth gagged, and against all odds his heart is still beating inside his chest at an ever increasing staccato. Green arrow missed. No, not missed. Diana's and Dick's reflexes were simply faster than the arrow. And now he is here. "I meant more about the part when I said until my heart stops beating, I take my last dying breath, and death claims me." He looks beautiful. Strong, self assured, in his element. "I mean, that has all already happened, but I still love you unconditionally, my love." Dick looks at him with what might be a mockery of adoration, but still feels so real to Jason. It hurts. All of this hurts. His chest hurts.
"Don't cry, Jay... I know it's not ideal, but I will give you everything you've ever wanted. I will bring our siblings and friends back together for you." What about Bruce? Tim? It seems Dick understands him, even though he can't voice it, because soon after he sighs and says "They would never submit willingly, Little Wing. You know how they were." And what about me? You think I would submit so easily to you? But even as he thinks it, he knows he would. Dick smiles at him and caresses his face so softly, just like he did on their wedding day so many years ago.
"Please don't deny me, Jason. I cannot live without you, I don't know how." Dick's lips are on his neck, his hands traveling all over his body. Dick feels cool against his skin, but Jason has never felt warmer in his life. And as the pressure in his neck increases and brings forth this terribly intense pain... Jason can't help but think about how much he loves him and how for the second time in their lives, he submits his past, present, and future to the will of Dick's love.
