<3 <3 <3 thanks, friends
Speaking of awkward fan interactions: late 2013-ish, SeaTac airport. Big bearded guy in a Karateka shirt said hi to you and talked about Tabletop. That was my husband, he still feels bad for bothering you but he was so excited when he saw you wearing that shirt.
He was so kind, and we totally nerded out about Tabletop. It was awesome.

Holy shit I need that striped suit so bad
god, it's so good. *ponders sewing queue*
I see both you and Anne will be in Seattle for ECCC this year! Seattle's missed you. I hope you'll get a chance to stop in the Museum of Pop Culture and see the Star Trek exhibit there as well.
I hope we have time to hit it up on this trip. I hear that it’s magnificent.

I have never sewn a swimsuit because just the idea of working entirely in 4-way spandex gives me a headache.
I mean I don't want to contradict my message that anyone can sew if they want to, but yes swimwear fabric is a tricky little devil and takes patience. (shockingly enough, it turns out that garment labor *is* skilled labor, who would have thought?!)

Swimsuits are that expensive … all the time? It sucks, but if you don’t fit into Target or Old Navy’s offerings, yeah, you’re gonna drop a lot of money on a decent suit that fits.
YES! Swimwear is actually kind of hard to make, shockingly enough (I mean, so are all clothes). Multiple layers of fabric -- much of which is not cheap -- which needs to be sewn together precisely, with elastic added cleanly and securely. I am not immune to the allure of fast fashion! I have suits from Forever 21 with anywhere between 15-20 pattern pieces each, not including lining, which works out to idk how many stitch operations but it's a lot. Honestly those suits absolutely should not be $30 because you couldn't possibly pay a fair wage and cover that amount of labor.
