This past week, I started my internship that I'll be doing until the end of my program. It's 3 days a week, Wednesday-Friday, from 10:00 to 18:00. I intern for an independent music PR company called Partisan PR and they work with independent artists as well as record labels to do PR. I'm hoping that I can get a lot out of this internship as it'll hopefully give me more insight into the music industry as I am interested in going into that industry if sports doesn't work out-- or if I fall in love with the music industry even more.
A big difference between UK and US offices you'll notice is how the office is set up. No cubicles, just an open space lay out. At first it's a little intimidating when you're in a small space with everyone being able to see what you're doing/hear what you're saying, but you soon get used to it. Another difference is that they want me to/encourage me to take my 1 hour lunch break. At my summer internship, I didn't really have a lunch "break" in that I always sat at my cubicle and ate, just like everyone else, unless every now and then we all went into a conference room to eat. But there was never a set amount of time I got for my lunch. It's nice that I get a real lunch break because staring at a computer screen all day long, doing excel sheets start to hurt your eyes and it's nice to get out of the office for a little bit a re-charge.
So far, I've been doing the same thing every day-- monitoring press coverage and compiling it all into an excel sheet. This isn't very challenging as it's something I did at my summer internship, but I'm hoping that as the weeks pass, they'll give me more stuff to do and even a project that I can work on throughout the weeks.
An upside to working at a music PR company? There's always music playing so it's never really dead silent. Not only that, it's also a chance for me to expand my music taste and hear about new artists!
On that note, go check out George Ezra! He's a 19 year old from Bristol and his music is absolutely fantastic as well as his voice.
