Her relationship with him had always been agonistic, ever since she was a child. He only cared for the de Riva name and not the people within it. Some head of house, some talon. Dickhead. 

❝ 𝐇𝐞'𝐬 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭! ❞ Lark retorted, irritating lacing her tone. She let out a sigh of frustration.

❝ 𝐇𝐞'𝐬 𝐮𝐠𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐩𝐢𝐝.❞ She went on.

Teia watches her with a measured gaze, her expression curious but otherwise unassuming. She often sees flashes of herself in Gabriela through her untapped fury and her sharpened tongue. Both are powerful weapons, if only they are primed to useful targets. These attributes are two of the many reasons the pair cultivated a near-instant connection all those years ago. Perhaps unsurprisingly, they are also sources of conflict for them from time to time.

“If I did not trust you, Gabi, you would not be a Cantori,” she says simply.  Gabriela was not yet a fledgling when Teia assumed control of their house, which meant that she was not here for the period where Teia had to systematically root out traitors among their ranks and run them through with her knives. The only solution to treachery and betrayal is death.

Setting aside the ledger Kalyani had just given her, Teia rises and crosses the room to stand closer to the younger Crow. “Now, speak plainly. What has brought this on?”

"you are an evil, EVIL man." words said through laughs, cheeks pink and heated. there had been a few drinks -- okay, MANY drinks between them in the hanged man and of course that led them to his quarters upstairs as she demanded to read over the stories he was writing about them. it always just sort of... happened like this. all innocent until it wasn't. eyes ripped away from the page as she leaned into him and it took everything for her not to POUT.

"i --" in that moment, she sobered just a bit. what was happening? this could RUIN everything. or it could be something incredible. the inner turmoil within her was delicious and agonizing. "varric, what are we DOING?"

"it's not. it's NOT." if there was one person who might be able to match the stubborn nature within varric, it might just be the one standing in front of him now. she wasn't sure if she fully believed the words she was telling him now, that this wasn't the end of them.

but she had to have HOPE.

it's the only thing she had left.

hands cradled his cheeks as she smiled at him, eyes watery and breath caught in her throat. "you'll come find me, right? who else is going to put up with your shit if i'm gone?" hope upon hope upon hope. "take care of our inquisitor, yeah? go and save the world and then come back and get me or i'll haunt you for the rest of your life. maybe even after."
