Do you mainly draw digital or do you also draw with physical mediums? (And if physical mediums too plz let me see)
I’m personally getting into charcoal again because apparently charcoal basics and still lifes do NOT compare to the dopamine of charcoal character portraits (I highly recommend getting some charcoal and leaning into special interests)
omg hiii friend hiiiii 👋👀
I'm 99.99% digital these days, but you're SO right about the dopamine hit of traditional media!! I still get an itch to get my hands moving every now and then that I've always got at least one tangible project on the side to break up the monotony of computer work, but typically it's not something I personally feel is worth an in-depth post (I like restoring/cleaning up previously-owned, well-loved plastic model kits, for instance).
My traditional art tag is pretty sparse. Pens and pencils are my weapons of choice, but I bounce around! I'd like to get into painting again, was jussst eyeing some local classes for oils and acrylics last month... feels important to refresh since I've been delving more into backgrounds (digitally) in recent years.
The closest I have in the way of charcoal is this, which—if I'm remembering correctly—is one giant collage of xylene transfers, graphite, and watercolor? I was a lot more experimental in school; among other things I did more abstract stuff with watercolor, what I guess you could call sculpture, and what I think was some form of block printing? (The class was literally just called "GRAPHICS." Descriptive, LOL) I'd LOVE to get back into the latter, but that unfortunately requires studio space and a press and I don't really have the energy to track either of those things down. I found abstract work pretty freeing when I was in a rut because it's so open-ended, there's not really any end goal in mind and hence there's more emphasis on just doing, but at the same time that exact thing can make things worse because you're meandering creatively with no defined limiters except the medium itself 💀
So coming off that, I've never really given much thought to doing more traditional art or anything, but I'll consider it!! It's a crazy confidence boost to know I can still put pencil to paper, but while I still have most of the materials to make things happen, these days it's more an issue of space asdhfdsj
