Ok I've taken several deep breaths now and here are some of today's findings:
The anxiety must have been in full force because he was outside vaping for a good ten minutes before the event started, he also stated that it was terrifying being up there when the compere cracked a joke about this being his smallest stage. His hands were shaking a wee bit when it started and he busied himself pouring water for everyone. He did settle in though.
The Amazing Devil was described as Grammy award winning, Joey looked very surprised by that and mouthed Grammy? Some fact checker about to get a telling off I'm sure.
This is his 7th novel!!!! The previous 6 he hasn't published, although was close a few times but he was using a pseudonym and he felt that he was hiding behind that.
On the note about his previous novels, hes currently looking at reworking his 4th for release but not sure if its (the subject) has been overdone because its heavily influenced by Stephen King. He's also working on 2!!! at present.
The Solkats have been kicking about in his head since he was 19 so its taken a while to pry them out.
He talked about family folklore and how its a thread that runs through family's for generations. He said his family when they enter the house whistle and if someone is in the house they whistle back, but if everyone is accounted for then its the ghosts!
He also told an anecdote about his Irish Grandparents and slipped into an impecable Irish accent to imitate his grandfather 😍
When the discussion was around being a writer in general, Joey said that in other jobs you can be promoted and have a career path but being a writer is just that so to celebrate small victories and keep going, him and his friends and family have Click Send party's when someone has completed something (i.e. like a new chapter to the publisher).
All in all he was marvelously funny, erudite and charming while flashing some serious cleavage (#Longlivetherug) so I've immediately booked for the Edinburgh book signing even though its the opposite coast from me!
