From the series of work ‘Abstract Botanica / Conservatories’
I have always loved visiting conservatories and plant rooms. All those encaged shiny patches of tropical plants, artificially and carefully planned and planted, creating a parallel, steamy universe, instantly transporting me to another place, somewhere else.
A moment of timelessness and time fullness.
Abstract Botanica series are born out of that experience and through them, I simply wish to take the viewer to that other place. I abstract the forms, leaving some references of natural elements, colours and textures. And just like the plants in enclosed spaces have planting plans and rules, the elements in my works have been carefully placed and balanced, but that balance can only exist within the picture frame.
I open the door, walk in and walk out a little bit different.
