The cat, the girl, and the store.
The first snow of the winter had started to fall. All was white, except for a black dot moving around. That black dot was Eunji. Despite the cold weather, she was out on her way to the pet store. She had packed herself warmly inside her new coat, but even when she pulled her scarf close to her face, the icy wind was still hurting her cheeks. She was determined to get through it, and the thought of what was to come warmed her slightly. A few days back, her brother had given her a Christmas present. The Christmas present, however, was still too small to be taken away from its mother. Today it was three weeks old, and Eunji would finally be able to take it home with her.
A small, descending flight of stairs led the way to the door of the shop. When she opened it, the cling of a bell announced her arrival. As soon as she stepped in and brushed the snow off of her, an employee made his way to her. “What can I do for you, miss?” He asked politely. Eunji smiled and felt her cold cheeks ache. “I’m here to pick up a kitten.” She allowed herself to peek around the shop. It was filled with toys, food, cages, and animals. In one corner there were a dozen or so small cages, each of them occupied with a couple of very colourful birds. In the back of the room stood a large tank, filled with tiny fish. On her right, Eunji saw a handful of bunnies, all looking extremely fluffy.
“Miss?” Eunji snapped back into reality, she’d been looking around for too long. “Ah, yes. A kitten.” She reached into her pocket and pulled a small piece of paper out of it, which she handed to the man. “Jung Minki.” He said, reading the paper. “Yes, he was here a couple of weeks back. It was a ginger kitten, right?” Eunji nodded. She’d only seen a couple of pictures, but the kitten was unmistakably ginger. “I’ll be right back then, just a moment.” She nodded again, and her eyes wandered back to exploring the shop.
It really was only a moment, for a minute or two later, the employee had returned, a small package in his hands. Eunji took a better look and detected two small ears. She beamed with happiness as the man carefully lifted the kitten into her arms. It was like holding a baby. She ruffled the cat behind its ears and grinned at it. “It’s so small.” The man was watching her as she looked at the cat. “He’s only three weeks old.” He said. So it was a boy. Eunji’s grin widened. She had already thought of a perfect name. “Do you know what you’re going to name him?” The employee asked, still watching her. She nodded, unable to take her eyes off the little bundle in her arms.
“Weasley.”
