The art of a classic form work
The basement floor has been poured, now it's time for the walls. Just like the floor, these become 30 centimeters thick. This thickness is suitable for waterproofing the basement without additional products. The contractor has opted for a traditional formwork. This is custom made by hand. According to the contractor, it is the most economical option with regard to the budget. It may take a little more time, but most of the materials that the contractor uses for this will be able to be reused later in the construction. The wall of the basement gets a total of six corners, this makes the whole even more complex. First one starts by placing a sliding insulation against the previously made undercut. The basement is basically a concrete tank that can move due to the pressure of the groundwater.
The sliding insulation is placed against the undercut. An additional foil provides protection for the insulation against the concrete.
Reinforcement in the formwork
Concrete only becomes strong by placing steel nets in it, the so-called reinforcement. The strength of the steel is determined by the engineer, who has made the necessary calculations for this. Two nets of different thicknesses will be installed in these basement walls. These nets are attached to the reinforcement of the basement floor so that this will soon become a strong whole.
The first steel reinforcement network has now been installed. Large wooden plates form the outside of the formwork where there is no undercut.
Steel pins protrude from the previously poured basement floor, to which the nets of the wall are attached.
We attach the timber of the formwork to the inside of the basement wall on large wooden beams.
A large part of the formwork is already ready. You can see the steel nicely in the middle of the future wall.
Many wooden beams ensure that the formwork cannot move when the concrete is poured. Stamps on the inside of the basement ensure that the formwork stays in place. The green wooden beams are the future rafters. These have a dual function in this construction.
Artwork
The architect is impressed by the structure and finds it a true work of art. "It's a shame that these types of formwork are not often seen anymore these days," says the architect.
The contractor will pour the concrete within a few days. The basement then really takes shape!
