I’d completely missed that the second volume of Bloodstone came out in English this year and I just have to say that I really recommend the new Les Deux Royaumes graphic novels.

It’s two (connected) two volume graphic novels. The first is Conspiracies, whose past section is focused on WW2 and the second is Bloodstone, whose past section is focused on the Vietnam War. There is a great overarching modern day story that, like in most spin-offs, actually gets its due. It explores the origins of the Animus; its connection with the Nazi nuclear program, Isu technology, the Philadelphia project, and a precursor to MKUltra. The lines between Assassin and Templar blur and allegiances switch. A new faction is introduced that can be best described as the Instruments of the First Will are to the Templars this new faction is to the Assassins. The Assassins can have a little civil war in 2017 as a treat.

Nikola Tesla discovered an Apple of Eden in Croatia. Using it as a power source and source of knowledge he sought to develop free commercial electricity and free internet, drawing the Templar’s ire and leading to Edison's attempts to discredit him and JP Morgan’s cutting of his funding. His Apple of Eden was stolen by Templars. In 1908, he developed a machine for the Assassins designed to destroy the Imperial Stave of Eden, but ended up causing the Tunguska explosion. His believed death in January 1943 was a Templar ruse to kidnap him and force him to work on the proto-Animus project Die Glocke using his own Apple. He later willingly worked on Project Rainbow, a Templar project assisted by an Assassin cell to use the Apple to travel back in time and kill Hilter before he rose to power.

Alice and Thomas Adler had stolen an Animus from Abestergo and kidnapped the amnesiac Maxime Gorm in an attempt to find a way to utilize the Bleeding Effect to curse the amnesia of their daughter Elisa. Forced to relive the memories of Eddie Gorm, Maxime was able to escape from his bindings at the same time Elisa and her doctor (who was secretly an Assassin) paid the Alders a surprise visit. Under the orders of the Brotherhood, Elisa’s doctor killed Thomas and Alice. Maxime successfully killed the doctor. The two amnesiacs fled the house before the Brotherhood could arrive.
