“So I was thinking that maybe me and you could double date with Zack and Kelly at the Max Friday night.” You said as you were sitting next to your boyfriend slater on your couch, his arm wrapped around you with a bowl of popcorn on your lap “that is if you want to, it was Kelly’s idea and I thought you would be up for it.”

Slater looked over at you and smiled “sure.” He said “just let me know the time and I’ll pick you up.” Slater plopped a popcorn in his mouth after saying this statement

“Great!” You said as you smiled, leaning your head onto his shoulder, nuzzling into his chest.

“This is nice.” You said as your eyes not leaving the tv, slater looked over at you and smiled.

“It is.”

“So how are you and Y/n?” Asked Knox, a guy who was on the wrestling team with Slater, they were currently in gym stretching.

“We’re doing great!” Said Slater “I just wish she wasn’t so clingy.”

But what Slater didn’t know, was that you were listening in on the conversation. Holding back tears, you ran away unnoticed.

“He says that I’m to clingy.” You said as you were ranting to your best friend Kelly “and I am not clingy.”

“Maybe he didn’t mean it?” Asked Kelly “maybe it was the heat of the moment.”

“I don’t know Kelly, it sounded like he was annoyed.” You said “but it did hurt my feelings.”

Kelly stood up, walking over to you. She gave you a hug as a comfort.

“Why don’t you just be honest with Slater and confront him.” Said Kelly “I mean, that’s what I do with Zack.”

“Maybe you’re right.” You said “I’m going to talk to him.”

The next day

“Slater, can I talk to you?” You asked as you walked to his locker, fiddling with your hands

“Sure babe.” Said slater, he shut his locker before dragging you to the side “what’s up?”

“Am I to clingy for you?” You asked him “I overheard you and Knox the other day talking about how to clingy I am.”

“Oh.” Said slater “about that, I’m sorry about what I said, you’re not clingy.” Said slater “I guess I got you mixed up with another ex girlfriend of mine.”

“It’s fine.” You said as you smiled “just don’t do it again.”

“Let me make it up to you.” Said slater “how does a burger and a milkshake for the max sound?”

You smiled.

“That sounds delicious.”

“Great, let’s go.”

Slater’s dad goes through with the transfer over to Hawaii, despite his son’s disagreements. Zack isn’t all that upset about the loss of his romantic rival. Time goes on, and Zack remembers him— I’m thinking around freshman year of college? And that’s where they end up bumping into each other: somewhere on campus.

they have a class together and sit next to each other then meet up again after class to talk. Zack asks him how he’s been and why he’s back in California when he could’ve stayed in Hawaii and Slater confesses that he missed it here and wanted to come back and says he’s glad he ran into Zack and asks him how everyone else is and if he ever managed to get Kelly. Zack tells him how they got together and eventually broke up. From this point on they continue to meet up and hang out outside of class. Second year of college they decide to dorm together bc they’re both tired of dealing with their nerdy roommates (im headcanoning Screech went to a different college). Classic long lost friend to roommates to boyfriends situation.
