It was late in the afternoon when Elli arrived at the herbology greenhouse. Professor Sprout, aptly named, had assigned Elli to this week’s garden work along with one of the fifth year Gryffindors. Usually it was just watering and spreading specific fertilizers on certain plants, but the professor had something more planned for them that day.
Some of the mandrakes needed to be re-potted. Usually this would be a class for one of the younger students to partake in under the professor’s watch. Which was still the case. They’d potted the very mandrakes she was about to re-pot now. The only difference was they were babies back then and now they were getting closer to their maturity it was time to put them in pots with room for two.
On the surface it seemed like a simple task. That and their screams were more powerful now. Of course, Professor Sprout wouldn’t leave their poor ears victim to their cries and supplied ear plugs.
Elli waited for the Gryffindor to arrive by setting out the new pot onto their work table. Even though Elli had done this task multiple times before she didn’t want to start without her partner. For one he could walk in right in the middle of a mandrake scream.
