Fiber is the gold of our communication networks. It’s what enables every aspect of our modern connected lives, but are we effectively taking care of it? In today’s show, Stephan Rettenberger and Ulrich Kohn talk to Gareth Spence about the development of ADVA Optical Networking’s ALM – a new technology that forever changes how networks are monitored.
Fiber is a great medium for connecting customers to communication networks. It’s transparent with low attenuation, huge bandwidth and signal distortions are minimal. You know all this. But many service provider don’t translate those characteristics into economic benefit, preferring to stick with a design practice inherited from copper-based networks. There is room for improvement ...

ADVA Optical Networking announced today that is has acquired an engineering division from technology incubator, mic AG. The talented team of engineers is specifically focused on the development of optical monitoring technology in fiber networks. Their skills will be key for ADVA Optical Networking as it continues to rapidly advance its popular ADVA FSP 3000 Access Link Monitoring (ALM) product. Since its launch in 2014, the ADVA FSP 3000 ALM has been widely applauded for introducing a compact and easy-to-use optical monitoring solution – something previously missing from the marketplace. The new team members will be based in ADVA Optical Networking’s Meiningen campus and will begin work as soon as the acquisition is finalized.

Our FSP 3000 Access Link Monitoring solution is unique within the industry. It provides continuous real-time insight of fiber access networks, enabling operators to fully leverage the potential of their fiber infrastructures. A new era of real-time fiber assurance has arrived.
Excited to share the first in a new series of videos I’ve been developing – Tech in 60 Seconds
Why is Access Link Monitoring so Important?
Fiber access networks are one of the most valuable assets in a carrier’s infrastructure, yet are they being effectively monitored? Do carriers have the real-time data and insight they need?
