hey do you mind explaining what you mean by operationalizing? (as in "operationalizing the entitlement that people feel" w/r/t the post about hijabs in france) i've never come across it before and wikipedia is not helping :( no worries if you cant/dont want to though

firstly, my apologies for using a term that is pretty inaccessible. I need to get better about using academic jargon without clarifying.operationalizing is a term that is used in some schools of thought when a concept or a norm (in this case the norm of women being visually accessible ie: not covered so much that you can’t see their bodies) gets applied through the creation of more material objects, like laws, particularly when the object is not explicitly built as an enforcer of that norm. In this case, operationalizing entitlement to view women’s bodies means that the law banning hijabs has embedded in it an expectation that women must be visually accessible at all times even though there is nothing in the law stating such, which turns the law into a mechanism for enforcing the norm of visual accessibility.
