from /r/vexillology Top comment: While cleaning out some old drawers today, I turned up quite a few old toys. The ones closest to my heart are these toy soldiers which the kid next door and I would play with in the garden. Day and night, sleet or snow they stood guard in the muddy trenches of Daisy Valley or fought bitterly to take and hold Petunia Hill. It is sad to say that many fell in the fighting, and today I finally dig out those cracked and splintered bodies to give them a soldier's burial in the trash can. Yet I was also surprised to find there in the bin this singular blue flag piece, which I had no memory of from all those years ago. And while it's little more than a stock image stuck on a basic geometric shape, it still warms my heart to imagine it meaning something to those poor plastic troopers who fought and died for my neighbour and my's imperial interests.
