It was. I mostly ship season 1 Saphael and just read AU stories with them like if cannon went this or that way. My other guilty pleasure ship is Meliorn/Raphael too. A rare pair just like Meliorn/Izzy. Simon and Raphael are so removed from each other it isn’t funny. Raphael is spinning out of control. Guy is complex, where Simon is turning into the good guy, fangs or no. Simon has fucked up too and hurt people but the writers seem to pull him back. I was side-eyed Simon. Smh. Raphael was hurting

Yeah, I really enjoyed Saphael back then but I really adore Raphael (yes, a big part of my reason is that he’s ace and I can’t be picky when it comes to representation lmao) so seeing the way Simon treats him sometimes (even though I love Simon and Raphael is certainly not a saint) just really doesn’t sit right with me. tbh I never thought about Meliorn/Raphael but it’s an interesting thought :D And I really enjoyed Meliorn/Izzy in s1 :D

ace fic rec list: in progress

okay so I am actually making a masterlist of ace-friendly shadowhunters fics :)  mostly centered around Saphael (for obviously reasons) but also including Raphael in other ships (not sizzy oops), and other ace headcannons within the fandom. It uses the definition of asexual as not experiencing sexual attraction, not ‘not wanting sex’ (although that’s a valid way to define it for yourself too, and some of the fics will say it that way, but it’s not the defining criteria here). So I’m also including some level of smut but it’s strictly in it’s own category. It’s also not specific to aro!Raphael but there will be some that have him as aro too. So, that being said. If any of you lovely people know of any fics that fit that criteria that you like, or have written any yourself that you want included, please let me know! I was thinking about how the popular asexual headcanons are often the socially awkward, clueless about sex characters. Which I'm not condemning, if you're ace and identify with a character or just headcanon a character as ace, you do you, but it does kind of depress me how a lot of ace headcanons are the stereotypical awkward ace. Which then made me really happy that Raphael Santiago, a suave, intimidating, confident leader, is also canonically asexual. An asexual who kicks stereotypes in the face.

Imagine that Simon doesn't really understand exactly what asexuality means to Raphael at first, but he's really concerned about doing the right thing in their relationship, so he kinda tries to avoid touching him romantically at all. And Raph is just getting more and more frustrated because no, damn it, he wants cuddles and hand-holding and light, fluffy kisses, and after like two weeks of this he just grabs Simon in a hug and drags him to the couch like, 'we're gonna cuddle now and you don't get a choice in the matter'. And Simon is really happy because he's super affectionate and was dying to snuggle with his cute vampire boyfriend.
