by the time she had decided on a different coat for the fourth time, sherry had been ready to admit that maybe, she was overthinking. after all, deciding on a different coat meant to also reopen the case of which hat and scarf and gloves to wear and somewhere, she rationally knew that one lesson to be learnt from this was that she definitely had too many options to choose from, especially considering that in the end, she opted for her favourite.
she always did, she could definitively have cut this process short. counterargument: she wanted to look her very best and this required her to take her time, no matter how frustrating that might be. and it was frustrating because she was steadily leaving her teen years farther behind and was also an accomplished mage. she had cared less when she had actually been sixteen and in the coming year, she would get rid of all vanity. even if it meant to nag jura into teaching her meditation again after their last attempt had not been crowned by success.
looking at the mirror before she left her apartment, she grimaced at her reflection. given how much time she had spent getting ready, she certainly could have taken the time to not look --- more or less --- how she always did. counterargument, once more: she was almost certain that she had read somewhere that trying too hard was unattractive. well, here was to hoping that the reserve was true, too, and that looking as if she had not tried at all was attractive.
stepping through the door, the grimace left her face and instead, she smiled. it was not snowing yet, but she had lived in the north long enough ( seven years ) to know in her bones when snow would fall. and tonight, tonight it would snow. her smile grew a little broader as she started walking, her pace quick, determined. they had agreed to meet at the corner and by the time it came was in her sight, her smile matched the decorated trees at the plaza because lyon was already there and so she moved even faster, her left hand in midair as she waved at him before finally reaching him.
‘‘ lyon, ’’ she said, holding both hands out to him, not quite hugging him yet despite dearly wanting to. ‘‘ my apologies for letting you wait. have you been here long? ’’
@aceofscale liked for a starter!!
