Hi!

I just finished EOS and I honestly have a question…? Aelin and Rowan discuss her taking over other territories “for her offspring to claim”. I think I’m just confused. Was there a reason she felt the need to do such??

Hi Anon!!! Sorry for the later response, but I had to crack open one of my (many) copies of EoS to help you out here,

I tried to do as much digging as possible, lest I literally reread the novel (which I do not currently have time for), but there are a few instances in EoS where Aelin's bloodline comes into contestation. In the very beginning with Ren, Murtaugh, and Darrow, where she is very swifly denied the 'easy' route to queenship. AKA she is told she is princess by blood, and nothing else. And there is also the end with Maeve, wherein she reveals that Rowan and Aelin are mates, and their children would have been very powerful.

Now, I cant actually remember where they discussed their children's inheriting other territories, but I think a large part of Aelin's character is a turbulent ambition. Which extends to every branch of her life, i.e. her possible children. Knowing the context for this would be really helpful, but I think that in the moment, Aelin might have been making a petty remark in reference to their bloodlines future power. Both Rowan and Aelin are extremely powerful, and its generally agreed that their children would dominate Erilea if they so chose.

Aelin's character is very complex, and she is very flawed. Her saying that was probably a product of her inexperience, youth, or ambition. I dont know if you have finished the series, so I dont want to spoil it for you! But generally, you could throw a dart and find a remark by Aelin that can be interpreted in a myriad of different ways.
