headcanon that daniel matthews never really knew what happened to his dad, only that he had died on the job. fast forward a decade or so, daniels now a psychologist specializing in analyzing criminal behavior, mostly due to survivors guilt from knowing his dad died trying to help him and feeling so helpless during his game
