Rachel heard the sound of Chance’s motorcycle pull up in the driveway and she smiled as she walked into the backyard, to a familiar site. Of course, Roxie had managed to find a sunbeam in the grass to fall asleep in, and Chief was running back and forth between being near her, running with the puppies, and being right next to Rachel, unsure what he should do. No matter what, Rachel called out “Good boy” sending his tail into an excited wave as he continued his behavior. Hazel was running around, chasing Chief, and then running back to help Sally, who was digging yes another hole in the yard. And of course it was twice her size, but that didn’t matter, the dirt was flying. Rachel laughed as she went over to the cooler and reached in for a couple of beers, hearing the front door open, close, and a scatter of little paws across the floor. She looked up from her chair to see Chance leaning over her, and gave him a kiss, before looking back and seeing Chance’s puppy joining in on the digging with Hazel and Sally. Chance lifted Rachel up so he could sit in the chair with her on his lap, nuzzling his nose in her neck. The two of them watched the dogs in the yard for about an hour, until it was naptime for everyone, apparently. They brought the puppies inside, who instantly fell asleep in their little dog beds, and when they went back to get the big dogs, Chief and Roxie were running around and wrestling, so they decided to come back outside and play along with them while the puppies slept.
