A/N: Hey, sorry this took so long. I kinda read over it after writing this but to be honest, there could be a lot of errors, so I’m sorry if there are. I try to keep all of my writing as gender neutral as possible because I want everyone to be able to read it and enjoy it! I hope you enjoy this and again I’m sorry for the wait!
“Captain Kidd,” you’d returned the greeting with a warmth to your tone. Sometimes the crew would tease you about it, claiming that you’d spoken to your captain with a sweeter voice than anyone else aboard. The trip you’d just completed had been a rough one. There was a grateful air about the crew to be back on land, even if it was just brief.
The usual rowdiness of the crew’s in the bar was just beginning to die down, most slowly making their way back to the ship. You’d wondered why Kidd was just now joining the festivities, but quickly brushed the thoughts to the side. James Kidd was private to begin with, though crewmates would argue he was closer with you.
You took a sip of your ale as he sat next to you, a smirk gracing his features. Silence fell over the both of you as you watched drunken revelries unfold.
“Don’t care to join?” It was a question you felt you knew the answer to, you still wanted to hear his answer.
A low scoff escaped him as he took a sip of his drink. “You know I don’t.”
A warmth spread across your chest. Quickly, you downed the rest of your drink to blame the fire on the spirits you’d been slowly consuming all night. You licked your lips, standing to leave.
“Leaving so soon,” Kidd turned to watch you, sounding almost disappointed.
“I’ve been here a while already,” you shrugged. Kidd quickly finished his drink as well. You quirked your eyebrows as if asking a question.
“No one interesting here anyway,” he said simply.
You turned your body away from him, the warmth from your chest burned as it crept up your neck. His footsteps fell in line with yours, a beat behind you.
As you moved further away, soft clamouring and singing still could be heard between the comfortable silence. You could feel Kidd’s eyes on you; you shot him a quick look.
A soft smile filled his face, “I dreamt about you.”
“Did you now,” you laughed, your eyes catching his. Your heart raced in your chest. The once harmless flirting had begun to stir real feelings for him. Regardless of how you felt, you knew that the reality of the situation was much different from what you wished it to be.
“You don’t dream?” He smiled teasingly.
“You know that I do.” You looked at him, at his suntanned skin, the flush on his cheeks. His eyes, while warm with affection, showed an anxiety underneath. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t understand exactly what he was feeling.
He grabbed your arm, making you stop your walk back to the ship. Your breath caught in your throat at the contact. “The next port we come to I’ll have a mission I have to complete.” He must’ve seen the flicker of disappointment across your face, or heard your heart hit the floor because his smile was quick to put you at ease. “Come with me?”
