Surgery the day after my birthday! ACL Reconstruction Take 2, Surgery 1 of 2
Yesterday I had a "small" procedure to take out the metal screw from my first ACL surgery and added a suture for a small miniscus tear on the inner side of the knee that they discovered during the procedure. The joint looks great and I for sure, without a doubt, don't have an ACL ^_^
Staff was really nice during the surgery, happy to speak English with me and they all wished me a very happy birthday right before they put me under. Also, post-op snacks here are way better. Biscoff cookies and Apfelschorle. Delicious. Bonus points for giving me a cute heart to mark which leg to do the operation on. ❤️
Other than a dull ache where they took out the screw, not too much pain, I even started my pain meds a little late. Weirdest/scariest part is that I have to give myself an injection everyday to keep the swelling down... I absolutely hate needles so that took a lot of mental prep. But, easier than expected and definitely a little fascinating to feel the pressure difference when the needle gets past your skin layers. Weird.
I was given a straight leg brace for after the surgery, and it's the first time I've ever had to wear a knee brace. It took a lot of getting used to and made it very difficult to sleep. But that's what I get for having a big butt which makes it hard to sleep on my back.
1 week in crutches, 6 weeks in a knee brace, then time for the big show and my second ACL reconstruction. Then 6-12 months of recovery then back to sports!! 🏐🏸🎿⛷️💃🏊🏋️🤸🚴
