Belo Horizonte & The Hippie Fair
Photos and Post by my dear friend and traveler: Amath Gomis (@Amath_G)
One of the best-kept secrets of South America is the Hippie Fair in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The Hippie Fair started as a marketplace in 1969 for artists, now is the largest weekly market in South America. People come from all over South America to sell anything in one of the 17 sections ranging from household goods, art, food and more. The fair runs only on Sundays from 7 am to 2 pm on Afonso Pena Avenue between Bahia and Guajajaras street. Remember to bring cash; many of the 3,000 vendors do not accept credit cards. Even those that do will pass on the 6% service change to you.
But I wanted to go to the Hippie Fair to get a crash course into what real Brasileiros (Brazilians) eat as street food.
