I don't really have any updates right now. It's been a crazy busy time for me. And honestly, I've had a hard time engaging with or feeling excited about anything Liverpool related since Diogo passed. His loss is so horrible and devastating. I'm sure I speak for the Liverpool community as a whole when I say that it's still very difficult to even wrap my mind around what happened, let alone process how tragic it is. Now that the season's started I'm beginning to engage again, but my heart just wasn't in it for a while.

I've got some time off work coming up, so my plan for a while has been to use that to get back into writing this and try to let myself enjoy the process of doing so. And I'm still 100% sure this is getting finished. I think about this damn story literally every day. It's gonna have its claws in me until I finally set the whole thing free.

Anyway, thank you again for this message. I've had a pretty exhausting week and it genuinely delighted me to receive it. I've never written anything this long or time consuming before so it's been a big learning experience, and I'm very grateful that there have been people who've enjoyed going on the journey with me.

Oh, this is such a hard question to answer without the fic being fully published! Please ask this again when it's all done because I will probably write just as many words talking about the background stuff as I did actually telling the story.

A few things I can share:

I have a lot of favorite scenes, but my go to is always the car scene in chapter 3. It's just so them.

The easiest character for me to write is probably Robbo. Though honestly, it's not that difficult to get in the headspace of any of the Liverpool characters. The England national team characters, on the other hand...impossible.

I have both an "official" fic playlist containing all the chapter titles and song references (which will all be shouted out when this thing is done!) and an "unofficial" playlist of songs that remind me of them/the story. It is extremely 🔥 and is maybe my most listened to playlist on my entire Spotify account.

There have been quite a lot of changes to this story since I first came up with it. But the main points have all been more or less the same since the whole outline finalized, with one major exception. I won't be able to reveal what that is until after it's all published. 👀

Some potential bits I abandoned early were a whole side plot with Erling Haaland and a cat, Harvey Elliott getting his driver's license, and Perrie from Little Mix getting very invested in Trent's whole deal.

I have, without exaggeration, probably close to a hundred Google docs for this story.

Thank you! It makes me happy to hear that. I was honestly worried that no one would want to read it anymore because of the whole transfer saga. Luckily, the vast, vast majority of anons I get are lovely.

Also the chapter is done! Just have to find the time to post and reformat it in ao3 now. It's definitely the most "different" chapter in the fic so I hope people like it ❤️ I started writing this in part because I wanted to write a story I hadn't really seen much of in fic before, so of course now I'm worried about it being a story that I haven't really seen much of in fic before lol.

I literally spent hours editing chapter 6 last night. It's almost 13k words, so it takes a long time.

I'm glad you enjoyed the first 5 chapters. And I really appreciate how patient everyone has been waiting for this update in general. Please understand that I have a demanding full time job, family and social obligations, and a variety of my own (often intense) personal struggles that all have to be taken care of before working on this story. It's been unbelievably hard to even get this far into it.

I don't make any posts about this fic that I don't mean. I ended up being delayed this week because work was exhausting. I think the next update will be up in the next couple of days, assuming that my schedule doesn't change. Which it might! I'm just trying to get it all done without letting it stress me out too much.

Welcome to my blog!

Figured it was about time to make one of these! I created this blog when I decided to try writing fic, which you can find over at HalfAcre on ao3. I generally keep this blog Liverpool FC and rpf focused, but occasionally post about other random things I like.

The WIP

Chapter 6 is now up!

I’ll address some of the common questions I get about this fic below/give some context to what’s going on with me. But please still feel free to message me about it. I always love hearing that people are still thinking about my fic, even though the updates take longer than I’d like.

When will chapter 7 be out?

Currently, I’m not sure. A draft of it is entirely written, but I need to have chapter 8 mostly done in order to post. This is BY FAR the most challenging part of the story to write, so it’s taking time for me to figure out.

Due to my own schedule/a healthy dose of burnout, I took some time out from working on the fic at all. But I’m now back at it again and looking forward to making another update as soon as I can.

Why do updates take so long?

As mentioned above, this is the hardest part of the story to write, for reasons that will either be apparent when reading it or that I will happily chat about forever when it’s finally finished. But mostly it’s because I work full time at a mentally-demanding job. The busier I am at work the less I write, and it’s been very busy recently!

Candidly, I have also struggled to engage with Liverpool content since Diogo Jota’s tragic passing. It’s been better since the season started, but it’s still difficult to fully get excited about anything. Diogo was one of my favorite players and favorite people on the team, and he is extremely missed. Forever our number 20 ❤️

Are you actually going to finish the whole thing?

Yes.

I am extremely stubborn when I want to be, and once I truly decide to do something it WILL get done. Also, I’ve already written most of the ending and it slaps. So however long it takes, it will all be published.

Even though Trent left the club?

Yes.

To me, fictional Trent and real Trent are totally different people. The story is not changing at all because of his transfer. I hope you'll all still enjoy reading it.

Will you ever write something this long again?

Absolutely the fuck not!

people aren’t criticizing trent for the fun of it they’re criticizing him because he deserves it. playing like shit after not speaking on your contract and avoiding making any comments unlike salah and virgil who actually spoke and said they wanted to stay is plain weird. he played like his heads not in it and like he just wants to fuck off to madrid.

people expect their vice captain to have ambition while playing instead of jogging the entire game and playing lazily. mind you he doesn’t even bother with post match interviews he just drops a bad performance and stays quiet.

he obviously shouldn’t be abused on social media or anything but i think it gets to a point where criticism is valid especially after he dropped multiple below avg performances this season and is staying silent about his contract which warrants fans to assume he just doesn’t want to stay plus i think people are tired of some fans babying him constantly 🫤

I'm not saying that he shouldn't be criticized. He should be. He's a professional, and it was really really bad performance. But, for example, saying that he plays like he just wants to fuck off to Madrid. Does he though? Why, because he had a very bad game while his contract saga is in the news? I did not see a player who played like he didn't care or didn't have ambition to win today. What I saw was a player who played like he got deeply in his own head about not doing well and let it spiral. Why is that a less likely interpretation of what's going on?

Maybe he really doesn't give a shit about Liverpool this season, and really can't wait to get to Madrid. I don't think those things are particularly likely, but it's possible. The point is we don't know. We don't know this man or what's he's thinking. We should not create a public narrative about someone based on motivations that we've ascribed to them.

And I know that this isn't a popular take, but I don't think he's done anything wrong by not speaking about his contract. Mo and Virgil have expressed that they want to stay at Liverpool because they're (seemingly) sure that they do. I have always felt that Trent hadn't decided yet. Which may or may not be true, but what exactly is he supposed to say if it is? Either way, he said he's not going to talk about it and that's reasonable. Madrid are doing what they always do, which is trying to get a fanbase to turn on a player they're targeting. Unfortunately, it's been very successful. And I don't think it's babying him to say that. I think it's just waiting to make a judgement until we actually know what's going to happen, rather than just guessing.

Tl;dr: all I'm saying is criticize him based on his action and performance, not on what we assume is going on in his head. For example, the point about him not doing post-match interviews is a good one! And as a professional he needs to find a way to either focus better in games regardless of what's going on in his life, or not let mistakes impact him that much. All the rest of it is speculation that shouldn't be spoken about as if it's fact.

i agree with you. as a rule of thumb i refuse to make long lasting statements about things that could change in the next week. “he’s off to madrid” and if he signs the contract in the middle of the week now what? “he’s a bad defender” and if he puts in a good shift in the next game, now what? we can criticise the performance at hand, but let’s not forget history just because he’s pissed us off lmao.

i also agree with you on the contract situation. a little bit of critical thinking could tell us that he’s obviously undecided, hence why he’s not saying anything. is he supposed to come out publicly and say “i’m on the fence”? that can be implied by his silence 🫤 some people are being harsh over irrelevant factors to the performance he had today

Yessss and I felt my life force return to me. I love that he seems to think Trent was the only possible avenue for him to learn Scouse, the dialect of the place he lives and works 😭 the way these gays have me in a chokehold
