Progress on the Infamous "Sky" Painting, and a Shout Out
Progress on the Infamous “Sky” Painting, and a Shout Out

Tips for Acrylic Painters
Matthew Olyphant graduated from the University of California at Berkeley as a student of political science. Matthew Olyphant currently works as a producer of fine art in and around San Francisco. He employs a variety of materials in his work, including acrylics, spray paint, and charcoal. When it comes to painting, there are numerous materials and styles that can be used to vastly different effects. Acrylic paint, for example, features vivid pigments suspended in polymer emulsion. While acrylic paints are usually diluted with water, they can also be applied directly from a tube, similar to oil. Due to their fast-drying nature, artists should always remember to manage the distribution of acrylics; if too much paint is squeezed out of the tube at one time, the majority of the material will harden before it can be used. Artists working with acrylics should also keep in mind that these paints can be used to create both opaque and transparent effects, depending on how thickly they are applied or how much they have been diluted. Finally, artists who use color blends in their work should be prepared to paint faster than normal, as the tendency to dry quickly can cause acrylic paints to blend at unexpected rates.
