Changes to ACT National Extended Time
Beginning with the September 2018 test, the ACT is changing the way that National Extended Time exams (basically 1.5 time) will be administered. Instead of self-pacing through 5 hours of testing, testers will be timed per section.
You can read more details at the FAQ here and the press release here.
Again, changes will not take effect until the September test date. June and July National Extended Time exams will remain self-paced with 5 hours for the multiple choice sections.
Some students who struggle to keep track of timing during self-pacing may find this to be an advantage; others who take more frequent breaks or struggle to complete the reading in under an hour may find the change to be a disadvantage. The ACT is presenting it as an attempt to “increase fairness for all examinees.” Regardless, for those affected, it will be something to take into account when prepping over the summer. Specific section timings are on the FAQ linked above.
