“How I Spent My Summer Vacation Before the Pandemic”

First Paragraph: Where did you spend your vacation last summer? Who were with you? Where did you stay? Was it your first time to visit the place? What do you think of the place? What were the places you visited? Second Paragraph: What were the good things you remember about the vacation? Did you dislike anything about the trip and vacation? What were they? If you were to relive your summer vacation, what changes would you make? Third Paragraph: What is your dream summer vacation? Where do you want to go? Who do you want to take with you in this dream vacation? What activities do you want to engage in which haven’t done yet in your previous vacation? Do you think this is possible? What do your parents think about it?

So before pandemic hit I spend my whole summer vacation with my family to the beach and I think every weekend we go to the beach of bukidnon I am not sure what’s the name of the resort where there is swimming pool. And another beach its two barangays from my home we go for a swim with my grade 10 classmates. We also go travel to the distant relatives all over the Mindanao and lots of road trips. Lots of memorable moments going to the beach like diving, finding sea shells, go for a banana boat ride, with my family while with my grade 10 classmates we go for a fight on the water and we even got scolded from one of my classmates parents because her daughter was injured from swimming though it is a bad idea sneaking out to go to a beach I know this memory is the worst thing that ever happen in my vacation but its worth to remember. Lots of memories in my vacation and I don’t want anything to change it I was happy to experience this memorable vacation with my friends and family. My dream summer vacation is to go to Hawaii with my parents and Discover Paris with my love of my life if god planned anything for me huhuhu I want to go to Hawaii with parents because I want to make them feel happy and relax and see wonderful places in Hawaii and also I want to discover Paris where I can buy souvenirs, eat different foods and more with my love in the future because I want to explore the city of love. I think it is possible when I can have a decent job an extra income and believe that I can achieve

Annotating Witchcraft

For activity 5 of the Website project, a passage from “Sex and Sin, Witchcraft and the Devil in Late-Colonial Mexico.” by Ruth Behar will be annotated to serve as an example on how to read a scholarly work in history. 

The Basics:

The first step in annotating any paper is to simply read it a few times and note down descriptions of the text as well as your own reactions to the text. This helps to locate key information and quotations, and to recall your thought processes more easily and quickly. It is also very important that you mark any words that are unfamiliar to you and write down their definitions somewhere. Having a key is usually really important to distinguish what each marking means. Additionally, highlighting or underlining claims raised in the passage will make understanding the passage a lot simpler at the end.

For a Scholarly Work in History:

For this type of passage, the thing to focus on apart from the claims is the evidence used by the authors and its relevance. For instance: is the evidence a primary or secondary source, what is the significance of the type of evidence, why was that specific evidence used instead of another, does the author agree with the conclusions in the evidence if any were drawn. Then also consider the authors intent in writing this, by examining the context in which the passage was written. 

If you do this combined with the basics, you will have properly annotated a scholarly work in history.

My response to this passage:

In this passage, Behar is arguing that unlike in European culture, witches in the Spanish colonies were less persecuted. In fact, she claims that women often used witchcraft accusations to their advantage. She builds her argument slowly not clearly stating anything drastic at first. She starts off by making an obvious claim that “women of social levels lost their legal autonomy”( Behar). She then proceeds to expand on this claim and makes newer and bolder claims all the while supporting each of the claims with primary and secondary sources as evidence. She continually cites other authors who agree with her individual claims so when all of them come together at the end, she has a very solid basis upon to make the claim that women self reported to being witches to escape marriages they were unsatisfied with and to escape other legal prosecution. While on its own this claim would be very “out there”, with how she slowly built it up over the course of the passage, it becomes a very understandable outlook on what happened. Since she presents her thought process so clearly, it also makes it very easy open up the whole argument for an academic debate. 

I found the whole passage extremely engaging and interesting to read. While I know she expands on this on the following pages of the article, I would like to see more detailed examples of people actually taking advantage of the witch system in the Spanish Colonies. While such an account would be extremely unlikely to be found, as the whole idea is a conclusion based on different pieces of information, it would be an extremely interesting read and would of course prove Behar right without a doubt.

Concept: struggling to deal with feelings while feeling trapped.

The “emotion” text is larger in proportion to emphasize the feelings that Ron Burgundy was dealing with. The scale of type to its border signify that it is trying to push out and escape.

Entertainment Education Module, Activity #5

Go to http://sojust.net/songs.html and select 2 songs with similar topics or messages, and then compare and contrast them. Discuss the following: what is the primary goal of the song in terms of what message is being communicated, which route of persuasion is used, if they are ‘violating a contract’, and how effective the song is.

The first song I chose was Imagine by John Lennon. This song is trying to communicate that people should live as one and be peaceful towards one another.

The second song I chose was Where is the Love? By the Black Eyed Peas since this song is asking where is the love within the world.  Both songs talk about people living in harmony and I think that both are effective. I might think that Where is the Love? Might be more effective since it is catchy and the lyrics are more meaningful.
