How did you become an actor? It's literally so expensive to get started. And how do you know who to sign with? Are you supposed to hold out for someone special, or should you hop on with the first person who gives you a chance? And did you have to move to New York or Los Angeles as a teen/young adult to make it happen? How far into the game did you get a manager or agent?
WELL. I’m not signed with anyone, haha. yet. I literally am like, just starting out, but am having better luck with getting featured extra work. i did audience work to get some extra income, and also networked that way with people (nothing fully came from it, except how one girl got her agent and she recommended i make a website, which i’m in the midst of doing!). it’s all about who you know, really, and just. being super gutsy and unafraid. i moved out to LA in 2013 at 23 with a thousand dollars in my pocket and moved in with an old roommate from AMDA, her then boyfriend (now husband) and a girl i still live with now (the demon ginger). (keep in mind the work i do now is all student films and i’m not being paid.)
i’m basically navigating this the best way i know how, tbh, so i’m not the best to give advice, haha. there’s books and stuff, but i feel like, there’s no real “way” to make anything work in life. you just do you.
but i will say- invest in professional headshots and do research on photographers. the woman i went to when i moved here was good, yes, but compared to the guy i went to in january, it’s like night and day. i actually have gotten more things from the new headshots than my old ones, so it really does matter for that. it just makes you seem like you care more, i guess? or so i’ve heard/read. like you’re willing to put the money into your career and future, and not just some guy on the street with his smartphone.
but yeah! not super helpful, sorry, i tried.
lol
i requested off the wrong day of work for shooting
ALWAYS READ YOUR CALLSHEETS, KIDS~
