Listen as an actor though it’s your job to create your character through research because directors aren’t here to do that for you. You can blame the Russo’s but everyone else in the MCU movies manage to give a performance without knowing things. Like why didn’t you do any character work of your own?
The other actors have had a chance to do their own movies and know where Feige or whomever wants to go with their characters overall in MCU (because like... MCU is p different from the comics, and also comics are a mess so if you’re trying to get a character from the comics, you also kind of need to know where the writers/directors/execs/whomever want to go with the character...), and i.e. have had chances to work through scenes that would help them develop the character. And that would give them something to work with despite all of the lack of information given to them with Endgame.
Brie was filming the Endgame scenes before Captain Marvel started filming I think? and as @ayapandagirl says possibly before the Captain Marvel script was even finalized. Plus, Endgame had a huge cast of characters, and Captain Marvel wasn’t one of the main focal characters in Endgame, so it’s not like she would have had a ton of opportunities to really develop her character while trying to figure out what the Russos even wanted out of Endgame. To me, even if she had had the script for Captain Marvel, it’s different having a chance to work through the scenes and get a feel for the character. I think in some of the later scenes in Endgame, Brie is able to inject some character into Carol, but it’s generic, and I feel like it comes from the confluence of factors with how Carol was handled overall in MCU.
like I’m not saying it’s not the actors’ jobs to do character work, because... yeah. That’s part of my gripe with the Russos and their whole anti-spoiler BS with Endgame. What I’m saying here is..... it seems like the studio gave Brie shit-all to work with for Endgame, and to me it shows, and I wish it could have been done differently to let Brie give us a better Carol in Endgame.
