i wonder when animal cruelty as a joke started ik we've only actually cared for pets affectionately since like the 19th-20th century but now you will see "this thing is cold put it in the microwave". i know for a fact little victorian english children did not look outside on a cold winter night and go "oh, mother, look outside, it's a mere stray. may we put it in the fireplace" maybe they did but thats besides the point
