Underpass connecting to AD Architecture in Shantou, China. Without adopting unnecessary process and decoration, the additional built part is applied with industrialized steel and iron materials which corrode naturally as time passes by. It seems that they are showing the essence of strength and beauty.

Nah, it’s the Bowen Place Crossing. The durable and visually interesting palette of precast concrete, washed aggregate paving, porphyry setts and corten steel is almost a lingua franca for public places in Canberra. It seems that they are showing the essence of elegance, logic and directness.

A Minimalist Geometric Home is a project designed by AD ARCHITECTURE. Situated at the CBD of Shantou, this single-storey luxury residence embraces the river view outside. Spanning 300 square meters, the space is like a piece of white curtain, which opens up a free field for people to experience.

The project draws inspiration from the visual presentation of performances on stage. We turned the white space into a serene backdrop and stage for the occupants, with the details and dotted bright colors generating dramatic visual effects, which showcase the stylish character of contemporary luxury homes.

AD ARCHITECTURE adheres to create comfortable living spaces that purify people’s mind, combine tranquilness and beauty and integrate different cultures.

Project Background: The project is located in a high-end residential community. In spite of the “high-end” positioning of the project, AD ARCHITECTURE still endowed it with artistic features. Through feeling the beauty of pureness and quietness in space, the Studio created an elegant space that purifies and eases people’s mind.

Project Concept: “Neo-Chinese Style” is a prevailing word in the industry these days. AD ARCHITECTURE intends to create a space that reflects their design concept: adhering to minimalism, and focusing on emotional feelings rather than forms. When it comes to “minimalism”, it always reminds people of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s theory of “less is more”. “Less” here means eliminating unnecessary elements in the spatial design, while “more” indicates perfect integration of all elements rather than making the space crowded by using as much elements as possible. Reflecting the beauty of pureness and tranquilness of the East through Western design methods, is the core of the project design.

Without unnecessary variations or complicated decoration and furnishing in the space design, the Studio respected the original atmosphere in the space, refused exaggerated expressions and designed the space in a minimalism style, creating a broader vision for people living here. The space features the balance between slackness and tension, which looks simple but fully manifests the client’s taste. The overall layout of the space indicates the living habits and hobbies of the client. With white and light wooden colors setting the hue, the design integrated the client’s preference for a cozy life into the space. A bookcase stands at the hallway, with the client’s collections of books being orderly arranged. Besides, a long wooden-color desk was also placed where the client can practice calligraphy, which is the embodiment of Chinese cultural heritage. It is always said that people can meditate through reading, while design of the hallway actually enables people to maintain inner peace.

The living room and dining room were designed in a concise and simple style, and were perfectly integrated together by applying the concept of “blank-leaving” to the design. Structures in the living room and dining room stretched the space and achieved harmony among each other, creating an elegant and comfortable living environment.

The design of the bedroom is more of expression of emotions, which presents a tranquil atmosphere that perfectly matches the hostess’ hobby of playing the traditional Chinese instrument Guzhen. The invisible beauty and purified feeling makes the bedroom a place to heal mind and soul.

A White House by AD Architecture is an Easy and Minimalist Living Style. “We think we should enjoy this space and let it make us feel relaxed and happy.

This white house is located in a community that is far away from the downtown and rural area. Here we can see a large farmland and a branch of Han River outside the window. In terms of design, our philosophy is to create a minimalist white house with the simplicity and purity of black, white and gray, so that people can enjoy the air, the sun and the scenery, and embrace the nature in a place that is only 90 square meters. In general, the house takes a very low-key color scheme of black, white and gray to build textured spaces. The design focuses on “white” in a restrained manner, which balances the strong contrast between black and white boundaries. The overall layout perfectly integrates the Eastern and Western design philosophies and interprets an extremely pure modern style. The public areas (dining room, living room and kitchen) are very coherent, giving the small apartment a sense of spaciousness. The lines in different places are in good proportion, simple yet elegant. The large windows frame the most beautiful scenery; the bright light passes through the soft curtains, bringing pleasure into life. Owing to the reflection of natural light, the matt white paints and marbles divide the space into several layers, in addition to a carefully considered lighting layout, the space has a unique glamour of light and shadow. Leathers, woods, ceramic tiles, gray glasses and other different materials are cleverly collocated, enhancing the temperament and style in the space. In the living room, the TV background is decorated with black and white, and the ground is in light gray, moreover, white is applied in a large area of the space, together they achieve a simple and bright effect. The gray woody feel penetrates inside and adds warmth into the white and clean space. As the main background of the overall space, white is used to highlight the details and softness of the furniture, reflecting the owner’s pursuit of quality. The customized decorative painting—“listening to the tide” that is on the back of the sofa further highlights the mood created by this home. Sitting here with a cup of coffee and a good book is the life state we want. The chic metal objects inadvertently reveal the owner’s style and taste. The quietness and artistic temperament make people immerse themselves into this concise and smart atmosphere. Black marbles are applied on the surfaces and walls of the kitchen, such strong contrast enriches the layering sense in the space. Glass partition is used between the children’s room and dining room, which effectively increases the spatial feeling and brightness of the children’s room. Minimalism is a kind of complex. The design team abandoned too many complicated designs, opposed stereotyped forms without piling up objects, but making life simpler, so as to pursue a more suitable living environment.”
