"cast your minds back to mid- december 2008… ya gal is tired, stressed about choosing gcses and Growing Up, suffering™ from undiagnosed SAD, and generally not having a great time of it. in jumps (at an offhand recommendation from mother) one stuart goddard - literally, out of a tree, wearing a mask and a cape, and yelling-⁣ “That’s what highwaymen say!!” cries ya gal, kickstarting one of those backstory flashbacks to childhood tales of claude duvall, enlisting younger students onto your pirate crew on the school playground, and wrapping black scarves around your face to prance out from behind trees yelling those exact same words… here’s to the subsequent mufti at school later that week with paint smeared across your face, begging that same mother for a pair of leather trousers for your birthday, teaching the Prince Charming dance to friends in drama studios, having So Much of a reputation to decide to wear a tricorn to prom… for open and candid discussions of mental health and it’s impacts, for validating an ongoing interest in historical fashion and society, for prompting my earliest conversations and understanding of cultural appropriation, for showing that, actually, it’s easy to lay down and hide - where’s the warrior without their pride?⁣ Here’s to a decade of tapping out intros in pencils on the edge of the desk, bringing some fun and adventure into the everyday through little acts of romance. It was maybe my first serious interaction with ~fandom and will always hold a special place in my heart in extention to what I've mentioned already. Matched with the recent Discourse on tumblr and internet identity, I've bee feeling particularly nostalgic and reflective... just wanted to say I'm hugely grateful for those years and will always think of them fondly 💓
