Writer/director John Carney believes in the power of music, there’s no doubt about that. For those of you who’ve seen his films, you already know this statement to be true.  Simply put, this gifted storyteller has the uncanny ability to craft stories that inform the music at their heartfelt centers but he also has the deft ability to craft tunes that inform the films that they’re part of as well. This is to say that while Carney is known for making musicals (with a more modern sensibility), he’s able to put his own unmistakable stamp on them...."

Movie Review: "Scream 7" is the kind of sequel the original film had such a fun time mocking "MOVIE REVIEW: SCREAM 7 (R) Grade: C- As the end credits for “Scream 7” began to roll, I was left to ponder if what I just watched was, by design, ingeniously meant to be the exact kind of movie that the original film spent a great deal of its runtime playfully mocking over 3 decades ago, or…If "Scream 7" just wasn’t very good movie. Sadly, for this horror fan, it was more of the latter...."

It was a bittersweet year for Sundance Film Festival attendees as the legendary independent showcase (I've been attending since the mid-1990s) prepares to leave the state of Utah for its new home, Boulder, CO in 2027. That said, this last dance in the Beehive state offered a well-balanced roster of memorable films for lovers of independent cinema. The following five titles represent my favorites of the bunch...."
