me, with friends: walking in the woods, finds an axe, starts chucking it as hard as we can over our heads to try to stick it in a tree

me: my arm is sore, wtf? what did i do? why is it sore all of a sudden??? me, looking up covid symptoms: muscle aches is a covid symptom, do i have covid?? is that was this is? do i need to get tested? quarantine? do i- me: remembers axe throwing me: o h

Making the Same Mistakes Over and Over

I realized yesterday during journaling that I pretty much keep making the same mistakes in my life over and over. The only thing that changes is my reaction to them as I get older and more mature. I wondered if the reason I don’t learn from my mistakes/recognize patterns is because I have ADHD, and my memory is not as strong or available as the average person.

Anyone else out there keep repeating bad patterns? Any advice?

Insight into our crappy memory

I've come to understand two things about my/ our ADHD affected memory:

1. I less I know about a subject, the harder it is for me to remember. If you tell me just your name, I'll never remember. But tell me what your name means, where it comes from, etc. And it becomes very easy.

2. Most of the time when I can't recall something, I haven't actually forgotten, I'm just not finding enough information (from part 1) to hold on and draw from.

My friend asked me if I remembered the pub we went to a few weeks ago and I was gone, blank. But then he reminded me who went and what we drank and boom, I remembered the pub and even what we talked about. This happened two times. Now I can remember it easily because now its in my head as the pub I keep forgetting.
