For Encarnacíon: Address is Approximate, 2014 Artist Statement: For Encarnacíon is an exploration of home and its representation through the impersonal mediation of google maps and time sensitive data. Ostensibly, this piece operates as the artist’s representation of his own relationship with his grandmother, Encarnacíon. Presenting as distant and emotionally vague, the artist explores the certain sense of longing that only family can experience when witnessing images of familiar locales.  For the artist the idea of home reminds Martinez of his grandparent’s house. Google maps hasn’t updated the images of this neighborhood since March 2011. The artist’s grandmother is still alive on the internet.
