Today, I'm playing Cyan Starlight, a solo RPG about being the last human in space.
I'm doing this as part of a freelance contract to write a short story for the publisher Adept Icarus, who is going to distribute it to the Kickstarter backers as a how-to on turning the game's narrative into fiction. I've got some really good material so far, boosted by the ♪♪ music ♪♪ that the game tools come with. Give it a listen to feel lost in space, ~~alone~~!
The sounds of cyan starlight, the lonely scifi solo roleplaying game by Alan Bahr brought to you by the Adept Icarus game design and publish
Anyone want to roleplay as a lone wolf? Here’s the new cover for our upcoming solo werewolf TTRPG, Rue From Ruin. The gorgeous illustration is by Kris McClanahan and the brilliant logo is by K. M. Alexander. I think this clearly communicates the vibe of the game, but here are some words about it:
”Wolves run in packs. Humans cling to companionship and family. Rue From Ruin is a solo game about the consequences of deep-seated instincts denied to a new werewolf. You’re a lone wolf, and that’s the problem.
Uncover what happened to you. Take a journey of investigation, vengeance, troubles, and perhaps even redemption as you seek answers in Rue From Ruin.”
Keep an eye out for a crowdfunding campaign in the second half of 2024! @deeplydapper
Simone Tammetta is an exceptional artist that Adept Icarus has the pleasure of working with frequently.
His incredible talent and dedication have given life to two of our upcoming solo TTRPGs (RUE from Ruin, and Cyan Starlight) as well as our Tarot and Dice RPG, Vie.
We are immensely grateful for the boundless creativity and passion he brings to every project. Simone’s art helps share our vision with the world and inspires us to delve deeper into the fiction. Thank you for being an essential part of our journey!
Rue from Ruin: A Werewolf Solo RPG coming to Kickstarter soon! Katie and I have been working on this game for ages, and I’m incredibly excited to share with you all. Follow the page and get notified when it launches!
Will you give in to your rage or be overcome with regret? Perhaps you'll get vengeance or -just maybe- redemption.
Our lone werewolf game Rue From Ruin has a unique moon phase mechanic, and it needs a name!
Each turn in Rue is represented by a moon phase. You have Moon Resistance that drops as the moon fills (you’re a werewolf, remember). Some moon phases you’ll shift into werewolf form, and that impacts your available options.
The most human-centered activities are always available during the new moon and the opposite for the full moon. Middle phases are where most of the action happens as you search for your betrayer and attempt to overcome troubles!
What should we name the moon phase mechanic?
What are the minimum requirements to get your zine out today?
It's really not that complicated! If you want to print zines, you can print them on any printer. You can go to FedEx/Kinko's, the library, or you can even print them at home and hand staple them yourself! Consider leveling up your delivery and going digital-first, where you can publish on DriveThruRPG.com, Itch.io, or even your own website! These platforms allow you to reach a broader audience, track your downloads, and even earn some revenue. Maintaining your own website for publishing your zine can also be beneficial, giving you complete control over your content and presentation. I personally like Itch.io for new game designers because the community is very supportive and indie-friendly. Engaging with your readers is key. Encourage feedback and build a community around your zine. Social media platforms and forums dedicated to your zine’s topic can be invaluable for gathering insights and growing your audience. Keep updating your content and stay connected with your readers to ensure it remains relevant and exciting.
