excuse me while i vent actual genuine fury
And on this day in what is a bisexuality week??? apparently, i love seeing posts that casually imply that coded bi rep is obviously homophobic towards gay people.
i sincerely hope something shitty (but not awful) happens to you people today,
Coded bi rep stems from BIPHOBIA! People won’t say the word bisexual on TV, it’s not because they like us :))))))) Much in the same way people don’t like the word lesbian, actually, it’s just we don’t have a convenient other word like ‘gay’ that makes it totally clear what is meant. We have coded rep instead, we get ‘character flirts with both sexes’ and my personal fave ‘i just don’t see gender’ .
Except coded rep is ~open for business on other interpretations, fabo!! (this isn’t even going into bi/pan conversation b/c wow, and before i get this, i agree with the sentiment that only named rep is ~canon sexuality, but also that would only work if an active part of biphobia wasn’t erasing the word bisexuality from media, because then that line of logic is just enforcing biphobia, it actively tilts the scales in favour of gay people to start with). We are, in short, erased by creators and then shat on by other members of the community who see biphobia in action as a way to give themselves a leg up and then conveniently forget to mention we’re getting fucked over for something as small as a movie or tv character.
So the implication/open statement that coded bi rep is obviously just people not willing to show gay people on TV and enforced heterosexuality in action is so offensive i am gobsmacked anybody has the balls to get that one out, let alone think it?
not all wlw rep is lesbian rep, i’m sorry not everything is about you! but since now you’re even making our oppression about you, i can’t say i’m surprised you’re acting like this.
do not r*blog this and i mean it i’ll just block anybody off the damn bat
