The UK government has enlisted M&C Saatchi to help in the fight against rightwing extremism. But can the weapons the ad firm used to win elections for the Tories be adapted to beat racist lies?
Sam Delaney will be in conversation with M&C Saatchi’s political team at Mad Men and Bad Men on 12 March, a live event that is part of the IPA Festival of British Advertising. For more information, go to adfest100.co.uk

Students win competition to celebrate 100 years of British advertising
Kingston University’s Scarlett Chetwin, Oliver Servini and Sheona Turnbull have been announced as winners of a prestigious competition to publicise the IPA Festival of British Advertising. Their standout campaign, celebrating the best of British advertising, features the Cadbury’s gorilla, the Smash Martians and the Guinness surfers, amongst other iconic characters.
The competition, run by the IPA, asked students from around the UK studying creative advertising courses to submit a storyboard and script for a 60 second ad to promote the Festival and inspire the next generation to consider advertising as a career. The winning students wowed the judges with their simple yet effective idea of the public talking about or acting out their favourite ads.
The ad has been brought to life by director, Theo Delaney at Watchable, edited at Cut & Run with sound design by Wave, casting by Camilla Arthur and post-production by Smoke & Mirrors.
The IPA is also running a social campaign to encourage the wider public to share their favourite ads via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. EXTRA
