notes from fp2
track action
the whole grid back out on track this session
mv and lando noted for impeding - gp told verstappen that lando wasnt on a push lap initially, then corrected himself. verstappen just about managed to move out of lando's way
franco ran wide at turn one again
george reporting that the car is feeling better now, mostly due to the wind dropping
lewis reporting that the "steering is very stiff", not looking comfortable at all in the car
isack only 0.211s off his new teammate for next year, after they set push laps in quick succession
haas seem to have decent one lap pace, only 0.5s away from mv in p1 after ollie's first lap
ollie is very happy with the car saying on the radio, "the car is insane, i dont know how it's so good"
hulk managed to go to second on his first push lap, only 0.1s off of verstappen who finished his lap just before
sauber seem to be carrying on in good form, with both their drivers in the top ten, same as fp1
alex had weird engine issues throughout the entire session and asked the team, "theres something wrong with the engine. are we acknowledging that?"
carlos also had some problems this session, including a "weird snap in turn two", but seemed more comfortable than alex overall
lando's first push lap was 0.3s faster than verstappen's, both with the same track conditions
by comparison, oscar's first push lap was 0.7s slower than lando's, again same track condition
oscar spent most of the session searching for the right balance in the car - didnt seem to have found it by the end of the hour
neither ferrari driver looked happy this session again, charles' push lap was half a second off, lewis was down by 0.8s and the car was moving around a lot
verstappen focused on long run pace this session, doing multiple long stints on the mediums
mclaren and redbull have saved opposite sets of tyres for the race
how interesting 👀👀 tightness is in his neck it seems

notes from fp1 - abu dhabi
nine rookie drivers in this session: pato o'ward in for oscar, arthur leclerc in for lewis, arvid lindblad in for yuki, luke browning in for alex, ayumu iwasa in for lawson, paul aron in for pierre, ryo hirakawa in for esteban, jak crawford in for stroll and cian shields in for alonso
track action
not a representative session at all, which is why there are so many rookies running. the track temperature is far too high, so there is very little grip and the cars will behave very differently once it is cooler.
ollie was sparking massively through turns two and three which is unusual in that area, but could be due to resurfacing
carlos reporting that he "can't push the braking in sector two"
luke browning couldn't hear anything over the radio, so had to pit and have his entire radio replaced. did miss quite a lot of running, but it's especially important for the team to be able to talk to him as he is a rookie and there were a lot of cars on track
arvid lindblad was reporting "really bad" grip and that he was losing a lot of lap time bc of it - to be expected from this session
amusing radio from george - was told owasa was approaching, had to correct his engineer that it was "o'ward not owasa"
ollie told to pit after being told he has "a hydraulic leak". managed to get back out on track, but reported the problem was "getting worse" and ended up retiring from the session. informed by Haas that there was an issue with a sensor.
arthur leclerc ran wide at turn twelve - finding the limits of the car
close moment between the two astons - cian shields moved across the track to get out of the way, but ended up cutting jak crawford up
pato o'ward had huge lock up into turn one, and ran wide onto the runoff
verstappen reporting that "something is broken on the car" and the issue was "everywhere" - didn't seem to affect his lap time at all
charles span into turn five, after a snap from the rear- his brother joked that he was "doing burnouts for the fans"
luke had lock-up into turn one and ran wide - just struggling with the braking
mercedes are looking strong, both on race pace and single-lap pace
sauber also had a good start to the day with both cars finishing in the top ten- see if it lasts later when the track has cooled down
williams seem to struggling this session - hopefully when the track grips up later, they'll be able to push and maybe lean harder on the brakes
not a good session for ferrari, charles seemed pretty defeated at the end of the session, couldn't understand why they were losing three tenths per lap on race pace
rookie gaps to teammate
ryo hirakawa +0.175s to ollie
paul aron +0.349s to franco
ayuma iwasa +0.498s to isack
cian shields +0.543s to jak crawford
luke browning +0.719s to carlos
pato o'ward +0.761s to lando
arvid lindblad +0.763s to verstappen
arthur leclerc +0.859s to charles
apparently pierre paid for the drivers' dinner?? 👀
everytime they say the 'C' word, its like a jumpscare 😬 i will be on edge till sunday evening -_-
