There is someone VERY close in my life that I wish understood this!! Reposted @structuredsucc It can be hard to love, or even care for, yourself when you're neurodivergent. At least part of the reason this is so difficult comes down to the messages we receive from others. When those messages are so often harsh, othering, and filled with misunderstanding, we can internal those and they can become the way we speak to ourselves as well. [Transcript] Neurodivergent people generally get more negative feedback for completely inconsequential things than neurotypical people. When we're repeatedly told that even the smallest things we're doing are wrong, self-worth, self-esteem, and self-love can be incredibly hard. Valentine's Day party planning (and volunteer coordinating) takes a lot of executive function, a set of skills that are in short supply in the ADHD brain. Doing this kind of stuff can feel physically painful to me sometimes, as my brain carves new pathways with each challenge. The results are never as good as I want them to be, but with coaching I have learned to accept that these are the results I can provide right now. I've learned to keep it simple (photo booth is usually a hit, and I get better at it every year). Also, there's always a moment, in the classroom, amidst the chaos, in which the panic is gone and I can feel the excitement and gratitude of the kids that they get to party with their buddies and take a break from "instructional time" to celebrate friendship. We ADD-ers sometimes miss these moments because we're ruminating on our mistakes, the things we forgot or overlooked. I call this "throwing dirt," (learned the term during my @addcoachacademy training) the biggest coaching result that I've noticed in myself is that I throw a lot less dirt (and perhaps a little more glitter ❤️) #ADHD #executivefunction #lifecoach #adhdcoach
Transition isn't just a thing we struggle with between tasks. It can be difficult ANY time we have to go from one thing to another.
Healthy relationships start with the one we have with ourselves
Think imperfect thoughts. Take imperfect action. Make imperfect progress.
A great fidget helps us concentrate without distracting everyone else.
