Remember that year I worked in the oilfield?
Announcement:
I decided to quit my job.
*gasp*
Yes, its true. And yes, its a little crazy. But love makes us do crazy things. (awwww!) And I finally got tired of the clothes in my suitcase, airplane air, and only getting to see my fiance for a couple days here and there. So I talked with all the essential people, (God, my fiance, my boss) gave my two weeks notice, and am coming home after this hitch! You have no idea how excited I am. Seriously.
Things I am going to miss:
Brisket for breakfast! Nothing says 'Good morning sunshine!' like a steaming plate of brisket, chicken, sausage, and beans.
Sunrises. Best part of West Texas, hands down.
Cool, dry running weather. This flat-as-a-pancake ground combined with the perfect running weather can really make you feel like a champ.
the rig crew guys. I really am going to miss them.
Traveling to new places.
Meeting new people!
Simplicity. I get up, put on the same thing as yesterday, walk outside and I'm at work. All of my essential things fit in a backpack and carry on. Doesn't get any simpler than that.
Things I am SO EXCITED about being home for:
Phil
Wedding planning. I found myself getting jealous when couples engagement announcements popped up on my Facebook news feed. "Well, aren't you two just the happiest. You probably get to actually see the love of your life on a regular basis. Must be nice." Then I realized how ridiculous I was being, because the whole situation was actually in my control and I should probably cancel the pity party.
Holidays. Christmas is less merry on an oil rig. Ain't no way around it. With Thanksgiving and Christmas on their way, the lonely meter was about to start climbing. I probably would have missed being home for both. But now I'll be slinging tinsel, baking Christmas cookies, and putting on the pounds! (of muscle... from slinging tinsel...)
No more fear of crossing paths with mice, rattlesnakes, tarantulas, or centipedes the size of a large man's forearm.
Road trips with my baby (cue the country music)
Brushing my teeth with tap water. If you brush just one time with the "tap" water out here, its diarrhea for a day. Awkward. That's what I get for brushing with the water pumped from an open top tank behind my trailer that doubles as an effective bug catching/drowning vessel.
Church!
Fall, snow, and sweaters!
Not having to leave newly-made friends with a "I probably won't ever see you again, but if you're ever in Michigan..." :(
Girls nights. And being able to pick out my own clothes (and no longer wear the crusty coveralls every single day. How do they come out of the washing machine still crusty?!)
I am super duper extra excited for whatever is next. I don't know what that will be, but if I learned anything from my job, its to be completely okay with not knowing where I am going next.
Let me know if any of you are ever in Michigan! But really, please do.
