ADKTF Day 65

ADKTF Day 64
Painted another wall in the lobby because when we tried to paint over the dings it was clear the paint was the wrong color.
I miss doing non-theatrical painting, it's easy to just zen out and cover a whole wall one color with out having to think.
Saw a reading of letters between Georgia O'Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz. It was interesting. O'Keeffe isn't one of my favorite artists, but it was interesting to learn more about her personal life. Reading ran kind of long though.
Getting really ready to leave, ya feel?
ADKTF Day 63
(Thursday)
Finished painting the same wall, did odd jobs around the theater.
Seriously, we do nothing.
ADKTF Day 62
(Wednesday)
Painted a wall in the lobby.
This somehow took all day.
More than, actually.
I don't know.
ADKTF Day 61
(Tuesday)
Loaded all the road boxes out of the theatre and into the rental truck.
Rode in the rental truck to the storage warehouse, loaded everything into the unit, drove the truck to one of the staff houses, loaded furniture out of the house, loaded it into the unit and drove the truck back.
Went out on Lake George with the rest of the interns and the Producing Artistic Director. When we were trying to dock on an island we accidentally hit some rocks and one of the interns who was out on the edge of the boat to help tie it up hit one of the doors and fell. He was ok, but it was a little scary. It was nice to be out on the water again. I miss it. I also swam for a little bit and it was so nice. I basically miss being in/around water all the time.
ADKTF Day 59
Struck the set today. Took most of the day to get everything into the dumpster or back down to the shop and hang the borders. It's hard to say goodbye to the show. All day today I found myself getting weepy if I wasn't careful. I just miss being treated like a professional that deserved to be with such a talented cast. Now I'm just another intern to be manipulated and ordered about, for one more week. Only for now.
Packed up all the puppets to go back to Rick Lyon...I hope he thinks they were well cared for. Since Jen and I made the box puppets ourselves, the three puppeteers took home one each last night, the artistic director has the company sign another and I took home the other two. I thought Jen might want one but she has no room for it in her apartment (I'd like to imagine her apartment is basically a puppet closet that she lives in) so I'm going to take both. One of them needs a small repair that happened during the last show, but other than that they all held up for the whole run. I gotta mail her the two puppet stands she lent us and two beanie babies she had Nicky use during "Fantasies Come True" (they're two bears; one blue, one yellow....meta reference!!) and a card I didn't get a chance to give her.
Honestly, I just want to go home and get started on the next thing. I don't do well when I'm not working on a show. I need to keep working so I can one day deserve to be in New York and do something cool with those people and/or with puppets and keep learning. Sledgehammering flats apart isn't really my scene.
ADKTF Day 58
Final two performances today. Both went very well, it's a shame we can't do more shows now that we know what we're doing. I cried a bit during For Now on the last show, only because that song means so much to me. After the show we all headed to another board member's house and drank and swam in their pool and played this game where you had to sing if you had the beach ball (I was terrible) and played with the dog and it was great. Perfect ending to the show.
At it's core, Avenue Q is a show about lessons. As Christmas Eve says, "People learning all through they life". I have learned so much about myself as a theatre artist, my craft as a profession, I've learned about puppetry and puppet building and so much more than I ever thought I would. I've met such a wildly talented group of people (all of whom can't fathom that I'm not yet working in New York) that I've had the supreme honor to work with.
I miss them already. But goodbyes are only for now, right?
Avenue Q fun fact: If you don't know how something is happening, it's probably T-pins.
