Apology don't mean a thing if you never fix it // DD
Four months and four days later. Ecrin bus station, after a few hour flight, looking like crap. That's what Dakota felt like anyway. She pulled her wheeled luggage after her, wating for a taxi. Her skin darker, her hair lighter, her brows furrowed could, she almost managed to look like someone coming back from a vacation rather than from a tiring work trip, squatting in bushes and perching on the heels while she tried to capture the growing tiger populations. And all of that while completely distracted with scenarios playing out in her hand. She imagined not calling when she got back. Or calling to tell him not to call again. Or going there to apologize and leave. Or just pretending nothing ever happened, again.
But reality was gripping her and whirling her in a tornado of emotions as she kept knocking on the door rapidly. All the prepared speeches were gone from her brain. She was wondering if he's in there with another woman. That would be the best case. To see him moving on from her terrible self and from the future she couldn't give him. Was she selfish? Oh, yea, definitely. He was supposed to be her best friend after Shannon left with Eddie, after she had just helped her get over Daisy's death. She wasn't supposed to mess this up as she had with Shannon after being all over Eddie. She was supposed to be a better person and a better friend.
But she wasn't.
"I come here because I love spending time with you and you hate my neighborhood", were the words that came out as soon as the door began opening. Going out without first thinking them through. "I come here because it smells like curry and I love curry food and I love when my clothes smell like your home when I get to my empty apartment. And I love your tattoos and I didn't mean any of it and I haven't slept since that evening because I felt so bad and I thought when I come here you'd hate me and you probably do but I had to try..." she was looking down and away and down. Her luggage behind her, her hair still messed up from the flight and long bus ride here from Milan. No makeup to cover her newaquired freckles and baggy eyes. Her hand holding onto a bag with takeout from the restaurant below.
