Hi! In your FAQ, you state that you sometimes don’t accept/post submissions if ‘the admins couldn’t tell if the message was positive’ or if ‘the message was unnecessarily polarised’. Despite this, in March 2014 you posted a submission that was a (conscious) coded malicious attack on me, disguised as praise for another blog. Even the supposed recipient of the ‘praise’ understood this, and didn’t reblog it. But, over a year later, I can see that your blog STILL hasn’t taken that post down. Why?
The submission guidelines here at SBP have slowly evolved since I took over almost 2 years ago; normally in response to specific problematic messages we’ve received. But we don’t apply changes retroactively. The second guideline you mentioned was added in October 2014, so it wouldn’t apply to a message published in March 2014.
I went through the messages from March 2014 and didn’t notice any posts that read as an attack on an unnamed person. However, I am limited by my own knowledge of past fandom dynamics and any ongoing kerfuffles, so it is completely possible that I missed something.
I simply have to trust that the vast majority of messages are sent in good faith and do my best to evaluate them in good faith as well.
Since I’m not sure which message you’re referring to, there’s not much I can do at the moment. If the recipient finds the message problematic and wants to message me off anon asking me to remove it, I would comply. Otherwise, I’d need more details in order to make a decision, and that’s probably a conversation that would need to happen off anon as well.
I am sorry that this situation has made you feel that SBP is unsafe and/or unsympathetic. Trying to make sure SBP remains a positive space for the entire fandom is something that’s been on my mind quite a bit lately. So if you/the recipient want to come talk to me off anon, I’ll do my best to help in any way I can.
ETA: Situation has been resolved with the relevant parties.
