Figure Masterpost Part one!

This masterpost is to help you better with gesture, posing, and general body construction! Though most of this is stylized and shape construction, there are lots of anatomy videos to explain muscles, bones, and other anatomy things more heavily! Nudity will be tagged, PDFs have not been scanned and thus are tagged for nudity just in case! Week Two: Figures (Part One)

Activities!

This week is to help you get better at posing, gestures, and everything in between! This is only part one of us covering humans and anatomy! Don’t forget to have fun!

Day One: Draw a figure! Before any tutorials, draw the same figure in three different poses. You will redraw this by the end of the week; see how much more dynamic you can make it!

Day two: The Bean Pose Exercise! Fill a canvas with beans! Try and find as many interesting ones as possible and make poses out of them, or draw along with Line of action, QuickPoses, Senshistock or PoseManiacs! Try and get the gesture down as fast as possible. Compare your longest time to the shortest and don’t get so hung up on the details!

Day Three: Free day! Draw whatever you want today as long as it has to do with figures! Practice a little!

Day Four:  Line of action! Follow this activity and take pictures from your favorite artist, your favorite cartoon, or anywhere that inspires you! Try to figure out where the line of action is within them and figure out what makes it look so dynamic! Take screenshots of action poses and try to copy down the action lines and gesture!

Day Five: Challenge! Draw a character interacting with an object or another character! A chair, a staircase, a wall, their best friend, their enemy; whatever it is draw the character’s interaction with it! From holding a book to sliding down a water slide show that your character interacts with the object and landscape!

Day Six: Challenge! Draw a character inside of a shape! Try and get them to look as much like that shape while keeping anatomy in mind!

Day Seven: Redraw! Draw the same figure from the first day and try and make it more dynamic! See how much you’ve learned! You can check our masterpost for tutorials and videos to help you along your way! Most importantly this will all begin to help you think more about posing, gesture, and trying to maintain anatomy. It may seem like a lot but it’s a good jumping off point! Don’t be too critical of yourself when you’re still learning, no one will ever have the same amount of time and effort put into your work as you do, so comparing yourself to others is a futile task. Week One: Animals

Activities!

Day one: Freeform! Do whatever you want for the first day; make up an animal of your own, draw your favorite animal, study more on faces, whatever you want!

Day two: Study! Study for 30 minutes drawing along with line of action. Be sure to share the results!

Day three: Block it out! This activity is used to find simple shapes in the skull and features of your chosen animal! Bring it back to its basic form using tracing and see how simple it can look and still resemble the animal! 

Day four: Poses! Practice drawing poses for animals like laying down or running! Take note on the bone structure and figure of the animal in different positions.

Day five: Expression Study! Using reference, draw a human expression on an animal face. Take note of bone structures and the way the jaw moves on the animal. Exaggerate!

Day six: Draw your pet! Take a picture of your pet and draw it as close to the picture as you can. If you don’t have a pet, search up a picture of a pet that you want and draw that instead! Study the position and anatomy of it.

Day seven: Challenge day! Combine two animals either of your choice or from this animal generating website!
