Re: fetishizing Aubrey, a friend of mine brought this up but he was telling me that Travis specifically says that Aubrey dresses in a way that isn’t informed by male expectations. But all I see (not so much now, but in the beginning of amnesty) there was A LOT of art of her in super tight super leathery/sexy outfits. It makes me uncomfortable because people seem to think of her as a dress up doll and nothing else

Pretty much! I haven’t listened to the early episodes in awhile or maybe he said it at a con, either way this all sounds like something Travis would say. We should respect him and Aubrey and not sexualize Aubrey! I think especially when she’s a wlw there was… a troubling pattern when it came to drawing her and it’s something to be aware of, moreso now that we know she’s a woc.

Nah, I’m glad you brought it up here. It’s absolutely true, people fetishize dark skinned women (everywhere but in the TAZ fandom too). Inclusion and diversity in any space requires respect and genuine interest in that person, perspective, and experiences, not seeking them out because of their look. 

This is a good list on racial fetishization as well as some recommended blogs and this is a list on fetishization in general.

For anyone looking to not fetishize dark skinned Aubrey, be conscious and aware of what you draw. Have you drawn her in a sexy pose? A sexy outfit? Look at the reasoning behind the choices in her opinions and really make sure you’re doing it earnestly. Remember when you aren’t a dark skinned woman no matter what you do you’re at risk to have racist undertones (or overtones).

If anyone, particularly dark skinned woc, would like to add on, feel free!

This blog, as all my blogs do, rely on scheduled posts and queues, so I’m not around as much as I appear to be (probably why I need another mod or two). Hi, it’s Admin Gabe, and I made a mistake. In the process of finalizing mods, I’ve already chosen someone (who we’ll be announcing shortly if they choose to) and I’m really happy with the choice. However, in considering a third mod, I forgot something very crucial, which is when you have someone join the blog, the messaging system goes away.

To the handful of people who applied by IM I apologize so much, but the app is gone. If people who applied by IM could please submit another application, I would greatly appreciate it.
