“Alright, what’s eatin’ at ya?” The question came out ofseemingly nowhere causing you to almost drop the book you were reading. It hadbeen a long week both yourself and your boyfriend, Shikamaru. It had beennothing but stress after stress after fucking stress and it was really startingto pile up on your shoulders. You do nothing but glance up at Shikamaru from yourplace on his lap, you had decided to put your head in his lap as the two youtried to relax and take a nap.
“What do you mean?” You ask simply your eyes still scanningover the literature in your hands. His indifferent looking soon became a frownat the answer as his head lolls over to look at you, an eyebrow raised as helooks over you again.
“You’ve been off for the last week. Wanna explain why?” Heasks a yawn leaving his mouth as the question leaves him. He feels you freezeand that alone was enough for his suspicions to be confirmed, now he wasworried.
“… It’s nothing.” You trail off trying to play it off with aforced smile looking up at your boyfriend briefly before forcing yourself tolook back at your book. He didn’t need to know, he really didn’t, it not likewhat you felt was really important, it was just you being stupid… Right? You feelyourself tense at the thought, your hands holding the sides of your book tighteras you attempted to push the thoughts a lot. Pay attention to the book, payattention to the book, pay attention tothe book. Shikamaru did nothing but sit quietly and observe you, eyesshowing mild worry for a moment before going back to his usual indifferentexpression.
“Mmm, yeah, sure. That’s like saying I’m not lazy. Now, seriously,what’s got you-“ He paused his world as he feels you tremble in his lap, bookcovering your face. His eyebrow knit together in worry and he quickly adjustshimself to make you look at him, gently removing the book to make sure he canlook at you. He was pretty sure you heard him when he took a small, sharpintake of breath as he caught the miserable look on your face, tears streamingdown your face as you looked at anything but the wonderful man in front of you.“S/O..” He mumbles out trying to get your attention. Your name was enough tohave you break down for some reason, just the way he said it was enough for thedam of emotions you were holding back to flood through as you all but bawled asyou looked at him.
“I want to die…” You sob out. “I want to die, I’m so sickand tired of everything. I can’t do anything right, I mess up everything Itouch and I don’t understand why you put up with me. I don’t understand it!” Acouple of hiccups leave you before you continue. “Shikmaru, I’m so tired ofliving like this. Like a failure. Like a fucking idiot. I want to actually dieand I hate feeling the way I do. I want to leave…” You mumble out, sobs stillwracking your body as you let your eyes fall to your lap. Every word that leftmouth made Shikamaru’s heart break more. God, you actually felt that way? Andhe never knew? He felt stupid for not recognising the signs earlier, but thatdidn’t matter right now, what mattered what your safety. He quickly took a holdof one of your hands as the other came up to wipe away the tears staining yourcheeks.
“Hey, hey, hey.” He starts, trying to figure out his words.This wasn’t an easy situation to talk about after all. “Calm down a bit for me.”Great start, he’d be sure to kick himself in the pants for that later. Hesimply wipes away your tears as he continues to speak, hoping his awkward wordsmight help you in some way. “I’m sorry you feel that way, it must be awful… I…I can’t exactly say I understand the feeling but I’m willing to help where youneed me.” Shikmaru pauses again to try and find his words as he continues togrip your hands and wipe your cheeks. “But, just know, you are literally themost important person I’ve ever met.” He hears you hiccup in surprise as youlook at him again, your eyes puffy from crying.
“W-What..?” You blubber out, looking at him in absolute confusion.
“You’re important, S/O. You’re incredible, sweet, fantastic,and any other sweet word I can think of.” Another kick in the pants for later. “Seriously,I know my words probably mean nothing but they’re all I got. You meaneverything to me and I would literally walk the world over 20 times just tomake sure you were okay. I don’t exactly understand why you’re feeling this waybut I am more than willing to help you through it.” He says keeping direct eyecontact with you, making sure his eyes stayed completely serious the entire.Your blubbering had become nothing but a couple sniffle here and there from hiswords. He cared, Shikamaru actually cared.
“Th-Thank you.” Is all you manage to mumble before he pullsyou into an embrace where he lets you quietly hiccup yourself into asemi-peaceful sleep. He’d be there when you got up, ready to help you wheneveryou needed it again.
