Scuba - Never
Oh Scuba you are toooooooo good!
This tune is forthcoming on his Adrenalin Ep set for release on his own label Hotflush.
Scuba keeps it non-dubstep on new EP
This September will see the return of Hotflush label boss Paul Rose with his first proper release as Scuba since 2010's Triangulation LP. So far this year Rose has dropped the Loss / FutureUnknown 12" on Will Saul’s Aus Music imprint under his house / techno alias SCB, contributed a jacking track to Hotflush's Back And 4th compilation, and resurrected his Spectr guise for the first time since 2003 for a new single on Roska's Kicks and Snares label.
Continuing in the more dancefloor-aimed sound of said releases, the Berlin transplant's forthcoming three-track EP, Adrenalin (due out via Hotflush on September 26), fosters the convergence of his Scuba and SCB pseudonyms to a point where the two become entirely indistinguishable. Expressing a fading interest in dubstep on his recent Fireside Chat show on RBMA Radio, as well as an enthusiasm for the more house-leaning type of music coming out of London right now, it's probably not too far-fetched to presume that Rose has readjusted his focus on crafting tracks of the 4/4 variety - be it under the SCB or the Scuba banner.
Further indication of this development is the fact that, as the man himself admits, the two monikers have practically already merged in terms of DJ sets, with the Hotflush head honcho playing more or less the same kind of stuff as Scuba as he would as SCB (take his recent Boiler Room mix for example). Now, the question that inevitably arises is whether what we are witnessing is merely a passing dubstep fatigue or a lasting departure from the genre. Either way, it seems pretty safe to say that the odds of Rose delivering new material in the 135 to 140 range anytime soon are rather slim.
While a certain portion of his fans, namely those who are more into his earlier work and who were expecting something in the vein of Triangulation, are going to be a tad disappointed by Scuba's new offerings, others - like myself - will embrace them wholeheartedly. If the Adrenalin EP is a taste of what's to come from his future work, I honestly can't see what's not to like. Excellent stuff all the way through, from the crackling techno workout of the title track to the two more housey bits, Never and Everywhere.
