It was kind of a funny thing how it happened, how Scott and Mr. Harris (the person who hated Scott more than anything) ended up together, locked in a storage closet when Scott was supposed to be on his way to her funeral.And it kind of hit him all at once: this was supposed to be the time for him to tell her goodbye, for him to tell her all the things he so desperately needed for her to know, and the very idea that he was going to miss it was enough to send him into a panic.He couldn't breathe, chest constricting so painfully, and the more he thought about it, the harder it became until he was gasping, until tears were spilling down his cheeks without his consent, because it was real.She was really gone, and he couldn't even say goodbye.The other's words startled him and Scott glanced up before he threw himself at Mr. Harris, pressing his face against the other's shoulder, just desperate to have something to hold on to."--She's gone."
