Impatience | Sorrow | Confusion
Q has had a lot of practice in hiding unprofessional emotions, even when the people around him were and are being morons. Which is probably the politest way to say it. If he’s really bored of someone yammering on about things that are stupid and don’t matter and are using their position of power to mostly just whine for half an hour straight he can get impatient really easily. But he can never voice it, if he wants to keep his job and his head. He’ll usually have his head bowed so he can at least pretend he’s mulling over the things that have been said but occasionally give the people he knows he can trust, usually Daniel, an upward glance kind of like he’s staring into the camera on The Office. It’s a fast, blink and you might miss it sort of gesture but he and Daniel have worked together for years so the man knows when to catch it.
Q’s sorrow is something that he internalizes, probably to his detriment. Like his impatience, there’s never been a good place to show it so he often tries to mask it as something else. There will be a lot of sad looking smiles and downcast eyes and he often won’t have as many words to say as he usually does. He’s careful with his words and nothing really feels like the right way to describe how he’s feeling.
Confusion is one of the hardest emotions to hide for Q. Honestly it’s usually really easy to notice when he’s confused because it comes with a little bit of frustration and anger. He hates not knowing things and being out of the loop, especially when people just expect him to know what’s going on. When they just expect him to be the person he used to be who didn’t have to be confused so often. He’s lived in confusion for so long that sometimes it’s often his default state of being. If he’s confused there will be a lot of eye movement, as if he’s trying to look at the inside of his head to see if he’s missing anything. His lips will either be a hard line or parted and he’ll try to avoid eye contact as if it will give him more time to think or figure things out.
